Question serpentine belt tension

does anyone know what the belt tension should be on a 94 camaro 3.4? and also how to replace the belt tensioner? could a bad tensioner cause the car to run hot at idle but once moving the car runs fine. any help
would be appreciated.

Re: serpentine belt tension

Naah; the water pump runs directly off the belt; any slippage you'd hear it.

idle heating up points to fans not running whereas once moving you have airflow.

Re: serpentine belt tension

if you look at the tensioner there will be range marks and the arrow should be in-between them

Re: serpentine belt tension

that cant be the cause of the problem. sounds like your fans arent coming on. check that first. if the water pump wasnt spinning as fast as it should, youd be running hot regardless. perhaps even more while driving.

Re: serpentine belt tension

i assume its the same as most cars. find it, and there should be 2 bolts holding the base down on the block or head. take those out, and it should come right off. make sure the belt is off before you do this
