MSD Window Switch and Shift Light

Hello Board-

Sorry, a few questions in here.

I received a MSD LED shift light for Christmas. I was originally thinking I was gonna do a MSD 6AL and run it through that and a window switch.

1) What I am reading now is that a 6AL will require a plug wire switch. I just replaced my stockers with replacement AC Delco 7MM ones as I am paranoid about wires burning and wanted to reuse the stock looms. Is this true, do I have to replace the wires? If so, I will put the 6AL on hold I guess until later...

2) What I would like to know is if I can run a MSD window switch to run my shift light. I am looking to set it up so it comes on at 6000. 3) Do I get 2 pills, both 6000? or 6000 and 6100 for on and off?

4) What do I hook the window switch to to get the rpm?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Where did you read that an MSD box requires different wires? I've run the boxes with a variety of wires - including 7mm stockers and 8mm Taylors. Never heard they required any particular brand or type of wires????

Does your shift light have a socket for the pills? The MSD box has a convenient connector for RPM output, so it would make it a lot easier.

I understand why you would want the shift light to come on at 6,000rpm, but why would you want it to turn off at 6,100rpm? Hopefully you would have shifted on time, and if you haven't the light might help remind you.

Thanks for looking at this Fred-

On the wires, I read that MSD did not like solid core wires and assumed thats what the factory ones were. Sounds like bad assumption or bad information on my part.

I have the MSD 7542 LED light. It is a nice little light that will do the job but not be too conspicuous. It does not have direct input for pills. According to the instructions, it is supposed to be used off a rpm switch or right off a digital 7.

As of now, I am planning on going with a 6AL and a RPM switch (the 7 series has waay more than I need and is more expensive). I have a pill for 6000 for shifting and a pill for 6200 for rev control. I also have the adapter for the GM coil.
