Lt1...ls1...?
Hi all,
I haven't posted since I regretfully sold my 68' Camaro back in 2002. I'm now thinking about getting another f-body but I'm somewhat undecided. I love the LS1 and it's performance potential, but I am concerned about the cost and trouble associated with OBD II (especially since I am now living in California...birthplace and death bed of Great American Hotrodding!). I am also a bit leary of the issues with the LT1 platform such as the Opti-spark problems, drive shaft issues and the fact that GM is not carrying many of the parts anymore.
Finding parts is quite hard in San Diego (I don't know what they do with all the car parts here but I seem to always find more parts way further north). Anything I can find here is almost certainly a rip-off.
I am sure there are loyalists to either powerplant but my question is: which engine would be more in the esscence of good old fashioned street performance? Is the LT1 a little more affordable? Is there a lot more trouble to get into with the smog police with the LS1 or LT1?
Thanks guys.

Re: Lt1...ls1...?
ls1 emits less, and tends to be less problematic overall. coupled with its higher power and potential, it would seem to be the winner. however, the lt1 is more of a muscle car engine. sounds the part better, and the torque comes in lower. oh, and the ls1 gets better fuel mileage, if thats important to you

Re: Lt1...ls1...?
Get an LS1. But the opti spark gets a bad rep. People are always way to quick to blame the opti when it's most of the time a simple cheap fix like the coil, or a broken wire. Case in point, my 1994 still has its original opti. Going strong at 185k. And I've never heard of drive shaft issues with the 93-97 cars. The LS1s got the hollow driveshafts that some have broke.
