It looks kind of like the reverse lights on manual tranny.

do you know off hand where it would plug into?

Shoebox's car is an A4 so anything for a manual wouldn't be in that harness picture. except if i remember right i have a wire running up to the dash labeled rev light (i sent the harness into LT1 wiring to clean it up)

If it dangles off the harness in the direction of the transmission, then it could be the reverse lights, skip shift, VSS...

Fred posted a picture somewhere the other day of the transmission and connections.

It's for the crank position sensor.

Yeah, that's probably it. I always forget about that (since I don't have one).

ok, I eliminated EVAP as a possibility last night...it doesn't fit and I have both connections nailed down for EVAP. So it could maybe be reverse lights or crank position sensor. Can anyone tell me where either one of those connect? I do not see anything left on the engine or transmission to connect to so it must connect to something off the body harness?

Here is a better picture of the connection in question...its the one with the purple seal laying right next to the frame. the wire colors i think were two reds and a yellow.

and a bonus picture of the car in question

First you ask about "either one".... then you seem to be limiting it to the single connector with the purple seal. If by "either one", are you including the 4-pin connector with the yellow seal? Looks like the passenger side pre-cat O2 sensor. The wire colors would be tan/purple/black/brown.

It's not the tranny. Every T56 connector is 2-pin, and comes off a harness branch on the DRIVER side.

sorry, by 'either one' i meant the reverse light and crank position sensor suggestions made. i do know that the yellow one is the o2. I was down to just figuring out the purple one

it's definately the crank pos sensor...i must have missed it tucked in under there on the timing cover. thanks everyone!
