Extrude Honing the heads?

Extrude honing is the process of putting a clay like substance in your intake and pushing it through in hopes of porting and polishing. RIght?

So if this is true than can this be done to heads??

THanks
Zack

What is extrude honing?

A: Extrude Hone is a subdivision of PowerFlow Corp. It is actually slang now for the process that they perform on intakes, impellars (jet skis), heads, and exhaust manifolds. The process involves taking a metallic putty (like abrasive toothpaste) which is presssurized inside of the part to be "honed". The putty is moved/flowed back and forth by hydraulic pistons that are connected to the ports of the fixture/jig that is attached to your part. This abrasive scrubbing machines off a part of the finish, leaving it almost perfectly smooth. The process is also used to balance the flow in intakes, head ports, and exhaust ports since it is extremely accurate.

I have an older issue of CORVETTE magazine where a guy Extrude Honed his heads, did a cam swap with some other bolt on's and was running low 12's. For some reason, it doesnt seem very popular, wonder why?

As stated, there is quite a big chunk of change in extrude honing. For the heads, look to http://www.advancedinduction.com/

It's expensive, and doesn't gve the results that a good hand-port or CNC port will give. It simply removes material in an even way, as opposed to "designing" the flow in a port like hand/CNC will do.

So then, it would be best to shape the ports the way you want it BEFORE sending them off to ExtrudeHone.
