Extending M6 shift handle

I find the stock M6 handle to be too short for my liking in gears 2 4 6 with the Hurst T handle.
Does anyone make an extension that would just thread onto the existing handle to extend it 3" or so.

Re: Extending M6 shift handle

Is it possible someone put something like "Lou's Short Stick" on your stock shifter? In 13 years on this site, I've never seen anyone ask for a longer stick. Everyone is looking for something shorter. Hence, your shifter may already have been altered? Is that possible, or have you owned it since new?

Re: Extending M6 shift handle

It's a street car and I don't need to do competative type shifts.
I did an M6 conversion and this is the stick the transmission came with.
Might be a B&M but there's no markings on it.
It sits about 3 inches above the top of the shift plate without the ****.
I'm currently running a Hurst pistol grip handle I changed out for the T.
I like it better than the T because of the height.

Now that I think about it more all I need is a bushing and some threaded rod the correct size if I want to extend the stick to use the T handle 2-3 inches higher.

Re: Extending M6 shift handle

How long have you been running the car like this? I'm not trying to push anything on anyone ... but I shortened mine and I have a Pro-5.0 Shifter. I have NEVER looked back. She feels great.

Maybe if you haven't had it for a while, try driving it a couple weeks to see if you get used to it bud. Short Throws are nice for a street car. When I drive my car, I dont want it feel like I am shifting a Cummins Turbo Diesel. I want short, tight, smooth.

Re: Extending M6 shift handle

Since we put the M6 in last year.
I ordered a 2" coupler bushing and a 3" bolt to cut down for some threaded rod.
I don't like how close my hand on the T handle comes to the console in 2 4 6

I had a 68 Firebird 400 M4 vert as a yute 30 years ago and the Hurst shifter in that was longer and I liked it.

If I don't like the 2" extension I can easily remove it.

Re: Extending M6 shift handle

I bet you have something like a Lou's short stick or something..... Possibly you can snap a pic of it.

I have a stock length HURST shifter arm that I will sell at a light price. This is the same shifter that comes in most all SS and Ws6 models

Ok I'll send you a pic to your email.
This site is not very photo friendly.
Might take you up on the offer.
I was looking at some used stock shifters on ebay so I must have a short shifter already.

Re: Extending M6 shift handle

As you can see it's very close to the console in 2nd and 4th
especially with a T handle, not so bad with the pistol grip.

Re: Extending M6 shift handle

I machined the coupler bushing and cut it down to 1.5".
This is much more to my liking.
