Clunking noise when jammin the gas down or putting a load on
Hi 1st forum post i have a 95 z28 i was recently driving it not doing anything serious the only thing i did was a lil spin around other then that a few burnouts here n there. Well i was stop n dropped my buddy off and i had my foot on the brake and i was tapping the gas just enough that the tires would almost start to spin well when i was doing that i heard a clunk like from underneath at least i felt it on my feet. I came home took a look nothing was out of place nothing was leaking everthing felt okay suspension and steering wise and just normal driving home no noise. Idk if this is something really serious like a snapped axle a bad pinion gear or what. Is just a clunk and only when you like punch it or hold the break and load it up itll clunk go away and load it again clunk.

Check the transmission mount. Check the front torque arm bushing. Either of them could be broken or worn out. When you apply torque to the rear wheels, the front of the torque arm lifts the tailshaft housing of the tranny. If the mount is broken or the bushing is bad, it will clunk.

I would almost bet it's the trans mount. Every f-body I have owned except for my 2001 SS has had them go out. I've tried the polyurathane ones and they suck. I buy the cheap 8 dollar ones and don't create as much vibration. If this is your problem it usually takes me about 30min to replace with hand tools. I do things the old fashioned way because I don't have air tools.

Maybe $10 part and 1 hour labor. Need to lift the car a bit (jacks, etc) and support the transmission (jack).

You check the trans mount by using a floor jack to try and lift the trans off the mount/cross member. If mount is broken, the break will become obvious as the trans lifts.
Energy Suspension polyurethane transmission mount:

Easy to fix yourself. Have to unbolt mount from trans and crossmember, use a floor jack to lift trans a couple inches, pull out old mount, insert new mount, drop trans, bolt up. The poly mount may increase vibrations slightly. If that would be an issue for you, use a stock style rubber mount. But the poly mount will last a lot longer.
If it’s the torque arm mount, a visual inspection will tell you if the bushing is crumbling.
ES Poly torque arm bushing:
This can be DIY, but is a bit more involved than the trans mount

Thanks very much for the info! Unfortunately my personal circumstances prevent me from fixing it myself, so off to the shop it goes. At least I know it should only be about a hundred bucks or so.

P.S. is it ok to drive it in the meantime if I baby it? Or better to park it until it’s fixed? I couldn’t get it into the shop until next Wednesday afternoon, and being a convertible with warm weather here in upstate NY disappearing fast I hate to be missing out on nice driving days. But also don’t want the transmission to fall out!!!

Nothing is going to fall out. Just don’t abuse the drive train with heavy acceleration. Drive conservatively.
If the torque arm is lifting the tailshaft of the trans, the pinion angle gets thrown off, u-joints wear, and the output shaft seal and/or bearing could be damaged.
