1996 Z28 Wheels Stuck On Rear

I have a 1996 Camaro, and the previous owner changed out the salad shooters for 5 spoke wheels found on the '97 and up cars. The rear wheels were apparently not machined to fit the rear axle, as the hob hole isn't big enough, but they were forced on. I can get the lug nuts off fine, but the wheels will not come off. Does anyone have any suggestions for this situation? any help would be greatly appreciated!

IIRC the axles had a diifferent size hub area. I ran into this issue as well, and had success with smacking em loose with a rubber mallet and/or kicking them from behind. If you do this, be sure the car is well supported. Heat wasn't needed, but might help. Either way, it takes some work. Good luck.

This problem is covered in the Wheels and Tires forum FAQ.

If you put 97+ wheels on a 93-96 4th Gen, the hub holes in the rear wheels are too small to fit over the oversized 93-96 rear axle hubs. The fix is to lightly sand or grind the inside diameter of the hub holes until there is no interference at all between the wheels and the axle hubs.

No idea how you can pry them off, but when you finally get the wheels off the hubs, inspect the wheels very carefully for cracks from forcing the wheels over the axle hubs. They could be badly damaged at this point.

Ok thank you for the help guys. I guess I will try some penetratng oil, and keep letting it soak for a day or two, and then try to gt the wheel off.

I had the same problem, and my tire shop had to beat them off... if you do it carefully you can get them off. I tried 2x4s and hitting different spots for about an hour before deciding the Pros would have better luck

You can indeed get them off though, but I would of course grind the centers out slightly so they fit properly after that.

But yeah make sure the car is well supported if you try it yourself.

Good Luck!
