1993 Z28 02 Sensor size alternative

I had my Magnaflow catback and catforward with new cat installed today and I bought 2 new ac delco o2 sensors for the mechanic to replace the original ones but he informs me that the one o2 sensor(model AFS21) was a direct fit into the passenger side manifold, but the drivers side is not in the manifold but a few inches down in the y-pipe and is not long enough going into the pipe or just doesn't fit right.I went to autozone and everything they have mirrors the ac delco.Went to the dealer and they had the same information.Maybe the nut is too big.Any suggestions much appreciated.Thanks.

Maybe the threads need to be cleaned up. The sensors are the same on both sides.

Re: 1993 Z28 02 Sensor size alternative

Thanks Shoebox. When I talked with them they said they couldn't get the socket in far enough for the new sensor so they put back the old one because the socket would not clear the manifold tight area. When I got home I can see it from up top. Can't they just use an open end wrench? The old 02 has about a 1/4 inch built in sleeve in between the nut and the threads so it is extended out a little more for clearance I guess. The new one doesn't.Anyway I'll deal with this soon because my garage door opener just busted and now I have another project.I thought semi retirement was suppose to be leisurely ,ha.
