02 Camaro Battery Light

Does the 02 Camaro have a battery light that comes on when the alterntor takesa dump? I looked at my alt today and noticed it only had 1 wire going into the regulator plug. I thought there should at least be 2. 1 that excites regulator and 1 for the bat light on the dash. According to a wiring diagram, it should have 2. I don't even see another wire hanging where it could have been cut. I traced the harness all the way back to the rear of the intake and no loose wires. What do I do? I do have a volt gauge, but I thought it should have a light as well. Thanks in advance.

The LT1 4th gens have only one wire (exciter) other than the battery cable and a "check gages" light that may come on if the voltage gets too low (aside from the volt gauge). The ABS light will usually also come on if voltage is low.

I just found a wiring diagram for a 2000 Camaro. It only uses one small wire to the alternator as well.

The replacement alt ppigtail I found has 2 wires. I also read that it is necessary to run the 2nd wire through some typenof.resistance(ie the dash warning light). If u don't, it will burn up the alternator regulator. Here is the pigtail for the alt. It has 4 wires:

Replacement pigtails normally have all the wires, because they are universal and can be used on different models. If yours uses one wire, that is all it uses. Unless you are using the alternator in a swap vehicle that does not already have the resistance built in, they yes, you do need to add it, but it is on the one wire. The Camaro cluster has the resistance built in to it.

All I can tell you is the schematic I found says one wire. If yours has one wire but you think it should have more, then I guess you need to keep looking.

Do u know if the 02 has a cruise control light that turns on when the system is in operation? When my cruise is working and I am driving down the highway with it, I don't have any lights on my dash telling me the cruise control is in operation. THIS IS THE ONLY CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED THAT DOESN'T HAVE A CRUISE LIGHT. I can't believe it came without a cruise light. Even my 1979 Chevy p/u had a cruise light.

Thanks for the owners manual. It didn't say one way or the other about a cruise light. I can't see a 99 SE having a cruise light and an 02 not having it. Do u have 1 one? If so, is it located at the top of the cluster just to the left of center?

There's a diagram of the instruement cluster in the Owner's Manual, and it shows and Manual, which you claim you did see on a 99 SS.

What I don't understand is why they would put one on a 99, but take It off for 02?

I just took a look at the 99 manual and although they don't show a cruise light, this one definitely had because the guy and myself talked about it. I also remember it being hard to see because the sun was setting and coming in the car hitting the cluster.

I'm a little confussed by this whole line of questioning. You've been told that you have a one wire alt., which by the way is very common in modern vehicles. But you don't seem to want to believe anyone. I just spent a few minutes going through both owers manuals (99 & 02) and neither have "cruse control lights", which you also don't seem to want to believe, either!

What are you looking for? Many parts are still available from GM.
