Re: Starting out on a 5.3 Turbo setup for my 96 Z28...

Hey guys, Just an update.
Originally, I bought an LS9 cam/timing cover/sensor/pigtail for my setup. But last night I was reading on that cam/turbo setup and found that it would provide a soggy bottom end response on my daily driver/weekend warrior. There were immense praises, however, for a cam known as the Isky Triple 12. From what I gather, you can only get it from a gent known as "STOCK48". He doesn't appear to have a 'storefront' so it has been a little difficult to figure out how to order the cam from him. I ended up finding him by that moniker on several boards. I sent him a PM and he'll be shipping the cam to me soon. If you guys don't know him, he has an Lq9 in a 4x4 pickup running a Junkyard 5.3 that has gone 9 seconds. That is a 4,xxx lb truck and it runs this Triple 12 cam! The spec's on the cam are, duration 212/212 @ .050, lift of .56x and a Lobe separation Angle of 112
Hence the name, Triple 12. 212/212, LSA(212)

Well that escalated quickly.

Any thoughts on boring the iron block to 5.7 liters since you're ordering pistons anyways?

Hahaha.. No. Most seem to think its better to keep the cylinder walls as thick as possible. Besides, it'll already make much more power than I can put to the pavement. Don't know if you've seen this. It's sick... A guy, like myself, has taken his motor out and bought a $150 4.8, put some studs in it and a cam and left all his turbostuff hooked up(twins) and dyno'd over 900rwhp. Bone stock,200K motor. Jeeezus...

20 feet of PTFE -8 fuel line,
20 feet of PTFE -6 fuel line,
2 -8AN elbows...

Since I plan on occasionally running E85 in the Spring, I thought I'd better run better lines. My in-tank setup (twin pumps, one 255 walbro, the other a Aeromotive 340 lph) is almost done. Just have to get a couple more fittings. I wish there were a shop with all the fittings available so I could just go over there and piece my system together at once. It's somewhat frustrating to buy what I *think* I need, only to assemble it to a point and realize I need something else.

Ordered some 'light reading' and received it to day. "Master EFI Tuner for GM EFI" by Dan Maslic.

By Dan Maslic

In the book, he not only explains a lot of base terminology for the lay person but also examples of Real World tuning using HPTuning AND EFILive...
  • Stock engines...
  • __2007 Corvette
  • __2006 SSR
  • Modified engines/Nitrous...
  • __1998 Z28 (cam, 85mm MAF, LS6 Intake, cold air, headers, 125 shot)
  • Forced Induction VE Tuning...
  • __2002 Twin Turbo Z28
  • __2006 Turbo LS7

I've been playing with the free demo version of HPTuners while my purchased HPTuner Pro is enroute to the house. I like the layout of the book and it seems pretty detailed. I'm changing the values in the demo file just like the book says and so far, everything matches up.

Re: Starting out on a 5.3 Turbo setup for my 96 Z28...

More fuel system stuff (and my Isky Triple 12 cam!) arrived today...

I decided, at least initially, I'm going use the 2000 Corvette combo filter/58psi fuel regulator. Hooking it up to -8an and -6an PTFE lines.

Unassembled. The 'Y' is going to be on my twin fuel pump setup.

Partially assembled. The -6 an outlet will be going onto an -6 to -8 adaptor which we lead to the engine. The inlet is -8an, the return, -6an.

Assembled.

Re: Starting out on a 5.3 Turbo setup for my 96 Z28...

Due to a gent saying the corvette filter/regulator would be overpowered by my twin pump setup, I just ordered this to handle fuel pressure...

Re: Starting out on a 5.3 Turbo setup for my 96 Z28...

Hey Chris
Up till about 2 weeks ago, they were working me to death. That's the only reason I could afford this all out assault on my bank account
Working 16 and more hours a day, 7 days a week for about 3 months.

I received this picture from my machinist (Coppola Motorsports) yesterday...

Nice. What pieces are you using on the double pumper setup?
