lt1 remote water pump?

anyone tried to do one on an lt1? I have a 88mm mid frame turbo on a 383 in an s10 with a electric water pump on it now. I have a large frame 98mm turbo i had thoughts of putting on the truck, but the only place it is going to fit would be up in the grill area which would require a radiator and water pump relocation. I searched around some in attempt to find someone that has done it, but I didnt find anything. I have a water pump housing that i could cut up and weld on to make the adapters. There are 4 holes in the block where the water pump is, does the coolant flow through the top holes to the heads and then back out of the block through the lower holes? If that is right then i would need 2 different y's in the system to make it work correctly?

I think i can make it fit with no water pump, I have the motor out now. When i put the engine back in it will go in with no water pump for a test fit!

otherwise i will have a pt98 1.0 f trim for sale soon.

Re: lt1 remote water pump?

I was doing an s10 with LT1, and will mount the rad in the box with a remote WP. I saw the same set-up on a ford ranger. Seamed to work well. I know that Jegs sells a remote WP. All that is needed is a fabricated alum block manf to fit on the block each side.

The LT1 coolant flow is top hole thru the head and return on the bottom from the block. Simple. I would pay attention to equal flow lines to feed the block from a central distribution point to balance equal flow to each side.

The head weep lines wold feed back to the rad return line.

Sure would free up alot of space. B.

A good machine shop should be able to make some adapters that don't cost a fortune instead of hacking up a water pump.

Have you considered putting the turbo under the truck instead?

Re: lt1 remote water pump?

theres not much room under the truck and Im not a big fan of remote mounts. This is way more turbo then the lt1 block could ever hold Im afraid and Im having second thoughts. I have the engine and trans out now. When it goes back in this weekend, im going to see what the turbo looks like in there without th water pump and see if it is even possible. I might have to turn the turbo sideways or something. I have 2 extra water pump housing just sitting collecting dust so 1 could be sacrificed for a good cause if need be.
