When I was still running the original rear, I had the mini spool with a set of 4.56 gears (too funny when the inner pinion bearing is bigger than the gear itself lol) and pulling 1.53-1.55 60' with the fronts hanging for a full season without trouble. I have since gone to the Strange 12 bolt (with a spool of course) mostly because I needed a 5.14 gear to go with the 30" radial slicks. If you do decide to run the original rear you should absolutley add the preload cover to keep the caps from moving on the launch.

I run a 31 spline Tractech soft locker and it has worked great.

I totally agree with Brady that the 'backlash' is noticeable when it locks and unlocks but I am used to it.
