Re: 1995 OBD1 tuning help!

I have DataMaster, which opens a .uni file. But DataMaster also has an export as .csv option. I can give you a cut and paste of the fields you need to export. I would much rather you do the export if you still have DataMaster, so I can play with the file in Excel.

If you don't have DataMaster any more, attach the .uni file. It will just take me more time to export if and set it up the way I want it.

You can use Scan9495 to read the .uni file and immediately write it back to a .csv log file.

OK guys I will try to open the file in scan9495 and then change the file type so I can post it. I won't get to it tonight so it will be tomorrow or Friday. Thanks!

You may have to turn off the uni file error checking in the Settings page.

Re: 1995 OBD1 tuning help!

I think I did this correctly. I opened my oldest scan from DataMaster in Scan9495 and then saved it. I'm not sure if it is a full scan though since it seemed to be a short time of playback in Scan9495. That is the only file I have until I get my ALDL port figured out.I think it might only be a file of the car idling for a minute or two. I will look for another scan.

Ok, this should be a better scan. I hope it works.

I'll try to look at it later today. But retirement is worse than working.... Estate planning, financial planning, wills, long delayed medical appointments, thrown on top of income tax time and having to complete 24 hours of continuing education credits in order to renew my PE license by the end of April. But I will try.

Re: 1995 OBD1 tuning help!

A quick look at the various operating cells and the BLM"s and there is nothing there that I would label "split BLM"s", except at the very end, when its idling for an extended period of time (85 seconds), and at the start of the extended idle, Cell 16 is 114-Left/119-Right, and gradually shifts to 103-Left/132-Right.

But that is the only cell that displays significant deviation, putting one side below 128 and the other side above. And the program must have been tweaked at some point, because stock programming the BLM's cannot go below 108 (-15% fuel).

In general, the left side is pulling out more fuel than the right side, but the difference in BLM counts is 0 to 10 in the lower numerical cells (0 to 6), and very little different in the middle cells (7 to 13).

Not sure that tells you anything, but we have to focus on why the difference appears at idle. What hole did you drill for IAC? In the blades, or in the body? Did you use the copper tube through the hole?

Re: 1995 OBD1 tuning help!

Fred, I drilled a hole through the body just like a stock TB but went slightly bigger. I don't remember the stock size hole but I went about a drill size larger. I did not do the brass tube only because my edelbrock TB is flat on the back and does not let IAC air into the plenum after the blades. Maybe it still needs the tube but I don't see how it can help? Can the split at idle be tuned out or will it just keep happening if the IAC passage does not have enough air going to the correct cylinders?

Re: 1995 OBD1 tuning help!

I see it, but with things like the income tax crunch, completing CEU hours for the PE license renewal, dealing with lawyers and financial advisers as a result of my recent retirement, I have not been able to do much more on this site than ban Indian spammers, and moderate posts.

I don't know the specifics of the tube in the drilled IAC passage, I just know that's what some people have found beneficial. It's not a problem I ever faced. But then my setup is totally open loop, speed-density, so I solve the issue other ways using my aftermarket ECU system.

With you not having a signature, I have to go back to the beginning posts and look at the specifics or your build.

Re: 1995 OBD1 tuning help!

Thank you Fred for letting me know. Since you mentioned speed density, can a MAF sensor car be tuned for speed density?

Re: 1995 OBD1 tuning help!

A stock PCM can be tuned to run speed-density. It defaults to speed-density of the MAF sensor fails.
