i really dont think it is the evap canister b/c the canister itself has no stains on it, and it doesnt smell from the canister, but more from the opening to the gas tank if you have the splash gaurd off. There are no codes being thrown, and the more gas is in the tank the more it smells from gas. The smell is never while i am going down the road but only after the car sits for about 10 mins. after being driven, and is only from the driver side. All the hoses are connected so ANY input is welcome. I have too little money to swap out the evap canister and see if it is broken, but i am hoping it is b/c i cant think of anything else it could be.
Sometimes i get this smell, but i never could track it down. Usually i tell myslef its the 89' cutlass sitting next to it and move on with life, cause i too am in no mood for a costly repair or ungoddly prices for parts.
I am not sure what it is called for sure but I think it is called a Evap purge valve which is located between the lines that go from the tank to the evap canister. There is a hose that runs on the top of the valve. You might wanna check the hose. It might be rotted out and needs to be replaced. I had the same problem about smell gas fumes right after the car sits for awhile. And when I look around where the Evap canister is I see the hose that is located on the top of the Evap purge valve and find out it has rotted and when I tested the hose it was leaking air bad. So you might wanna check that out. Hopefully that is the problem. Good luck. And if you have anymore questions feel free to send me a Private message or e-mail me.
I smelled gas inside my car also, and i changed a couple of the cracked hoses and the purge solenoid, and guess what.....it still smells, so i gave up and roll the windows down. Until i can replace everything that has to do with the gas recirculation.
