...and your 2003 Inianapolis 500 Pace Car is.....
... the 2003 Chevrolet SSR.

Don't know if this is new or not... it is to me anyway!
PS: Sorry for the misspelling of Indianapolis in the title.

Hmmmm. I would have thought a 50th Anniv. Vette would have been a perfect choice for Indy this year. Or the new Caddy Roadster.
Not that I even care - The Indy 500 has lost me forever as a fan. Tony George can go get bent. The IRL sucks.

People snickered because it needed to be modified by Pontiac to run safely. What Aztek had to do with motorsports is anyone's guess.
You're right - the Vette was last year's pace car
That shows you how much I have been paying attention to Indy for the last six years since the The Big Split with CART.
That's a good point about the Caddy, but the same argument (about the price being too high) can be made for the Corvette. Not that many people can afford a $45K+ car, and those that can afford such a car wouldn't necessarily want one with gaudy pace car stickers all over it.

I knew GTO wouldn't get it after the big stink raised when Chrysler first put a Mitsubishi built import as a pacecar, and the S/C Monte Carlo won't be out till the fall, so that wasn't going to get it.
But an SSR?! A truck?!! I would have never guessed it!
..... but then, this still is the final year or so under the influence of the old guard GM, so maybe it's not surprising afterall.
