Guys with dark tint...meangreen94z 03-26-2003, 06:32 AM I have 5% on my car and at night when I go to turn into a corner, I cant see anything at all. What can I do besides take off the tint? Any tips? 94BlackBowtie 03-26-2003, 07:53 AM I drive with my windows cracked a lot...(as in rolled down just a little bit...) but if you are in NJ, that might not be as reasonable as it is in GA, it's warm down here...:D But usually, if it's chilly, I just leave it cracked enough to let a little light in, helps out some. Severous01 03-26-2003, 09:00 AM pray the whoever is screaming towards you is using their headlights! or just crack the windows and blast the heat. if you use the foot heater and only crack the windows until the mirror part hits the doorsill part, the heat will rise enough to warm your body while your face gets all the cold air. Bryan Smith 03-26-2003, 09:03 AM Uh, just gotta get used to it. Try backing out of my garage, when you live in the city and your neighbors house is 10ft next to your house, and your garage is behind your house. I usually end up rolling down the windows. Its a small price to pay - to look soo good  MarkyMark 03-26-2003, 12:54 PM Im gonna be getting my windows tinted black soon on my 97 z.......just wondering, what is the best percent to get them tinted at? Severous01 03-26-2003, 01:00 PM ive got 15, and thats pretty dark, some say if you tint, may as well get the most and get the 5. thats too much for sides though. i have 5 on the rear and its hard to see when i reverse. MarkyMark 03-26-2003, 01:22 PM Will a cop pull ya over for having that much tint??? I think the legal limit is like 35 percent here in indiana. 93Z286Speed 03-26-2003, 01:25 PM its hard to see period.. backing up is the suck.. i have clear corners and when i have my turnsignals on.. the hyperwhite bulb actually kinda lites the corner up a tad :) its nice Bryan Smith 03-26-2003, 01:45 PM Originally posted by MarkyMark Will a cop pull ya over for having that much tint??? CLEAR 03-26-2003, 02:14 PM i had 5% all aound on my 95 and couldnt see worth a **** at night. now on my 98 i have 5% on the back and 15% on the sides. its a really good combination. robvas 03-26-2003, 02:36 PM Try backing out of along, winding, muddy driveway in the country with no lights and trees and fences on both sides  Originally posted by Bryan Smith Uh, just gotta get used to it. WhoBetter? 03-26-2003, 06:12 PM you bunch of idiots, the reason it's illegal is just because the whole reason this thread was started, because you can't see a damn thing at night and that is dangerous. I don't why everyone refuses to get the legal tint, tint is tint i mean they aint much difference between 35% and 5%, there really isn't because the windows still look black from the outside. Any tips? Take the tint off... that is your only option. I used to drive a car with 5% tint. While it was extremely cool looking in the day, it was EXTREMELY dangerous at night. I now go with nothing darker than 20%. Capn Pete 03-26-2003, 11:48 PM Originally posted by Brent94Z I now go with nothing darker than 20%. Ditto:cool:. On both of my Camaros ('81 and current '02) I've had them tinted 35% on the sides (legal limit in Ontario AFAIK) and 20% on the back. From the outside, they look "black" until you stare, then you can see through. But from inside, visibility isn't really that bad, and even at night I can still see pretty good out the back;). Only on a show car, or a rarely driven / mostly DAY-time daily driven car would I put <20% all around................it's just not worth the "potential" hassle from cops, or the poor night-time visibility:rolleyes:. PredatorZ28 03-27-2003, 12:02 AM  black Z 5% tint:bow: Inutero 03-27-2003, 12:57 AM I bought my car with the windows already tinted..... I know they are illegal, they are totally black. the only way you can see inside is if you cup your hands on the window and look in, and you can barely see inside doing that. I just went and tested it :) HeebsDiddyRSMaro91 03-27-2003, 01:20 AM Yeah i got a crazy story about tint. Me and my friend who has limo tint all the way around, (5% i belive) we stopped at a stoplight with a cop headed the other direction. As soon as we pulled through the light he made an illegal left hand turn (legal for cops i guess) and nailed us! I have never got window tint becasue of how strict michigan police are about It. The tickets just arnt worth it. Plus with t-tops , u always have the windows down  Jerry 93Z286Speed 03-27-2003, 10:19 AM i try to have the windows down as much as possible when i see a cop :) or when u get pulled over, get that damn window down! so his ass cant see.. Ben Ramsden 03-27-2003, 11:00 AM I can mostly only speak from a Michigan point of view, but my father and I tint windows on the side to make a few bucks here and there. In Michigan, the rear window can be as dark as you want it, as far as the side windows go, its a whole different story. It is illegal, period, to have tint on the driver side and passenger side window, except for the first four inches, starting from the top. Personally, my father and I think this looks like sh**, so our cars have had, and will always have full tint on the side, but you do have to look out for cops though. Whobetter? is right about the reasoning for tint being illegal, it isn't because cops can't see in, it is for the safety of the driver, and others on the road. If a cop can't see into the car, he/she isn't going to approach it, they'll just tell you to role down the window, or get the hell out. My father has owned eight camaros (all black), and one ta (red), I own a camaro (dark green), we have always had all windows tinted except for front. My camaro currently has 20% all the way around, 20% is very dark for our cars, partly because of the compact insides, and also because of the curvature of the windows. We have used many different combinations over the years, I like my setup. For those who have trouble backing up, I certainly understand, but if you take your time, its all good. MadKilla 03-27-2003, 03:38 PM 5% all around since 94. Only one cop has said anything even when I've been pulled over for speeding. The one time the cop mentioned my illegal tint, I just told him its on because the car is parked outside all day and I have no AC, and my windows are always open. He said he understood and left me with a warning about other cops that aren't so understanding. But 8 years and no ticket in FL. HeebsDiddyRSMaro91 03-27-2003, 04:37 PM Its different though in flordia then some other states. Prob 30 percent of your cars are all tinted up. It is always nice and sunny there too. I think there is a lower number of people with tint in MI, so the police can still give out tickets left in right with out many major complaints. I know at least 5 people who have had to take off tint due to tickets from them... Thats just my theory. Keep on tinting on ! Jerry racechick 03-27-2003, 06:59 PM In Florida the legal tint is 15%. 5% is a little too dark for me. as for the cops pulling you over, they look for people like us with nice cars to f***with. If/when you get pulled over lower the window before the cop gets there. I have heard nightmare of cops taking a blade to each illegal tint and getting a fine for each window. If you are having a probelm seeing through them, you will get used to it. Everyone sufferes the same thing in the beginging. BIGKerneL44 03-27-2003, 07:27 PM Unfortunately a new law has been passed in jersey last week....u arent allowed to have any type of tint on the driver an passenger side at all now unless its factory, an its been enforced to the fullest locally 3 of my friends had to go to court already with their cars to proove to the judge it was off. just a lil FYI cuz i know the troopers are takin it jokingly 2nd2none 03-27-2003, 09:38 PM I have 5% on the back and the sides is 15% which is legal in Texas. I can cup my hands on the back and all I see is black, which I like because no one can see my Amps and Speakers! Backing up is a problem, but I deal with it, and at night everyones headlights look like light dots. Just drive fast and you don't have to worry about hitting anyone. Thats why these cars come with side view mirrors.:D 93m6 03-28-2003, 11:32 PM I have 5% on the sides and 20% on back. I've gotten two tickets and both times the cop didn't say anything about my windows. The legal limit here is 35% too. iamsparc 03-29-2003, 08:16 AM If you want to know a way to NEVER EVER get a ticket to window tint, it's simple...don't break the law! :D I know some people like to have limo tint on their ride, and if the law in your area will allow it, then by all means...go for it. If not, then you're asking for trouble. You can plan on getting harrassed by a bad cop on a bad day if you are breaking the law. It may not happen today or tomorrow...it may not EVER happen...but it might. The fact is...I don't want to give my local police an excuse to pull me over. It's just not something that I like to experience. If that means that I can only have 30% tint on my windows...then fine. I don't enjoy my run-ins with the po-po, so I try not to break the law. Just my $.02 ;) -Mike chasmanz28 04-02-2003, 10:53 PM Originally posted by iamsparc If you want to know a way to NEVER EVER get a ticket to window tint, it's simple...don't break the law! :D I know some people like to have limo tint on their ride, and if the law in your area will allow it, then by all means...go for it. I rode around with the windows down after sunset for about 3-4 days, and then my dad finally noticed it, and since the guy worked at the local shop by, he made the guy take the tint off, for my safety, I was really angry about this for a while, but now I understand..I still haven't got any tint on my windows, I think the legal limit here is 35% so i might get 20-30% on the sides and 20% on the back. If you really check all your mirrors and take your time, you can back up pretty well with the tint on the back. 1981zzz 04-03-2003, 09:54 PM Iwork in a tint shop protint and you are aloud as dark as you want on the back but the front you are aloud 35% and its leagal unless you get pulled over by a cop that is in a b@ hear we have 5% 20% 35% 50% the 50% is like having factory tint at are shop we use a metalized tint its easyer to see out and dosent turn purple and look like sh.. | ||
