Draco 03-19-2003, 01:43 AM Hi guys,
Mike S. came over and checked the car.... looks like the opti may be on wrong. I will be removing and reinstalling it tomorow (wednesday) evening - does anyone want to help? I have never done an opti before so I wouldn't mind some backup :)
bunker 03-19-2003, 03:34 AM yeah but Craig don't start the car the way it is now, I woulnd't advice it, I told you the opti is prolly on wrong before but maybe its a good thing you didn't do anything about it considering the motor is hard to turn.
Also, if the motor is turning really slow it won't start, remember it has to build compression & with 8.5:1 & really slow turning thats hard to do :)
Punisha69 03-19-2003, 03:44 AM I had to do an Opti Re and Re on Sunday.. this was at 12AM...
i timed myself. it was me and my bro. 2 hours EXACTLY
i'll help you out.
let me know
sideways_Into_3rd 03-19-2003, 03:52 AM a 45 minute job :D
Id help .. but im 3000 miles away tomorrow :D
good luck.. hope that ends ur nightmare...
um, dont start ur motor without the hub/balancer...
but try it out without the waterpump to make sure it runs and idles (idle it for 15-20 seconds)
also be careful when ur pulling and reinstalling the ur fancy 1 piece balancer ... make sure to rent a BALANCER PULLEY puller from canadian tire .. NOT a hub puller .. since u dont really have a hub no more... (they have 2 different pullers, and one wouldnt work for anothers purpose)
97TA-WS6-Con 03-19-2003, 11:14 AM Matt: Mike and Eric did fairly extensive testing of the valvetrain etc etc. In addition the battery was tested and is a little weak as well.
The other thing is that there was a fairly serious backfire through the intake - and I mean serious smoke - so that HAS to be an ignition timing issue.
Even IF there MAY be problems with the short block, until the opti is looked at, cannot know for sure.
Punisha69 03-19-2003, 11:40 AM payam
no mean to disrespect, but if you can re and re an opti in 45 min.. i'll give you a 100 bux... i'm a man of my word

the motor seems to be turning over a bit easier now... and Mike is confident that everything is sound mechanically. The sound we were hearing was very rubbery, not metallic at all - and Mike thinks it is probably just a seal.
I already rented the balancer puller - its a 3 armed thing with big claws right? they look to reach out about 8 inches across.
bunker 03-19-2003, 01:09 PM I can re & re in 45 mins but thats cuz I've done it a million times :)

bunker 03-19-2003, 01:33 PM OMG serious, I'll do it no probs :) I'm not joking maybe even sooner LMK when.
Draco 03-19-2003, 01:38 PM get to Shaun's by 6pm and we will do it fast. I am going to try to get a proper hub install jig setup using a grade 8 threaded rod and a good nut/washer combo.
sleeperZragtop 03-19-2003, 03:10 PM I rented a gear puller from Crappy tire to remove mine, will you need it to remove yours?
Draco 03-19-2003, 03:22 PM thnx for the offer Mike... I went and rented a puller this morning so we should be fine....
Gunna have to build my own install tool though with threaded rod.

sound fair?
Draco 03-19-2003, 05:01 PM man.... no playing games/gambling with my opti install!!!!! :death: :death:
I want this done right.... suffered enough already :)
AlexH 03-19-2003, 07:16 PM Craig, a puller with the claws is not the same as a balancer puller.
A balancer puller (at least for my car) threads into the balancer, and a threaded rod goes in the center.
The idea is that you don't want to pull the balancer material off the hub.
I have one, but it's at my parent's place in Coquitlam. I'll be there Thursday night if you need it.
