OK, well the title says it almost correctly. My exhaust pipe is hitting the very corner of my SFC's, and i was wondering what i could stick inbetween those two things to stop it from making such a racket. It makes my car sound like its missing and just sounds horrible. Any Ideas?

You are probably missing a hanger or clamp for the exhaust. The installer of the SFC's might have removed one for clearance. My opinion, just take a look at it.

 

I already have. Its right behind the front right wheel well, where the 2 pipes from the headers join into a single, then split in a cutout/back to the muffler.


if this drawing makes any sense, the banging occurs right before the cutout, where the 2 pipes are still 2, but right before they go into the y into one 3 inch

I have the SLP 1 3/4 headers also with the 3"slip fit connecter going into the Cat. (have Spohn SFCs tube type) with no banging problem. The installation of the cut out may be the cause, I have
no clearance problems in the wheel well area. I would take a second look at the cut out and may be you need a hanger or some kind of support there. Good luck..

 

I have 1 3/4 SLP headers going into a slip fit cat and 3 in SLP exhaust. I also have Alston SFC and no problems.

 

sounds like everyone is saying change what you got. If you cant afford that cut a chunk of tire out and bolt it accross where the pipe hits the floor, that'll fix it.

 

i had a similar problem and i used a heater hose to fix the problem

cut a length that will go beyond where it hits the sfc, split the hose down the middle lengthwise, slip (wedge/ force) the hose inbetween the sfc and exhaust pipe. you may have to pull down on the pipe a little to get it to fit in there. then take hose clamps and tighten them down around the exhaust pipe and the hose so that it doesn't move anywhere

its a pretty quick fix if you can get the hose in there, mine was hitting in only one specific spot so i could wedge it in there. didn't take away all of the vibrations but it dampened it enough that you couldn't tell about 99% of the time

 

Rubber Hose on Exhaust Pipe . Not a very good idea unless you like the smell of burning rubber . Try for a fix that will solve the problem and that means getting under your car and engineering a solution. My opinion...

 

I have to agree with DJP on this one. Even if it's far enough down the exhaust to keep from melting, that rubber is gonna stiffen up and crack and fall off in a year or so and you'll have the same problem all over again. Fix it right the first time and you won't have to worry about it later.

 

ok, maybe i explained it wrong, there is no loose hanger. It is just where the very corner of the right subframe connector is hitting the exhaust pipe, and making a thumping noise inside the car, and a metallic banging noise on the outside of the car. There is nothing to fix. I just wanted to know if there was any find of material i could wedge in between the two things to stop them from hitting eachother, or at least quiet it down.
