Knock sensors
I had a 305 in my IROC when it was new. I replaced it with a 350 and then later with a Lingenfelter motor. I know the knock sensor was never replaced. I have not had a problem with pinging but have heard some at wot a couple of times. I just thought it had some bad gas. I never thought to change it as my car runs 12.9 at 110MPH. Do you think it would make a difference if I changed it. Like would it pu a .10 or anything at all? I am funny about changing things if there is no gain..
Never throw parts at a car for no reason. Get a scantool on it and verify that the knock sensor is working at all. It should log a few counts during startup. If it does work, log some data while you are driving to see if it is giving you false or actual knock.
If it is logging knock counts (false or otherwise) at WOT, you are losing potential WOT performance (power).

Hey Chris, Matt here is right, but your car is old and probably has a less sensitive knock sensor so I'd replace it anyway. Put the new one in and maybe take it over to APE for some dyno time and programming if you can afford all of that.
Thanks guys. I am getting ready to step it up again and want to make sure I don't blow the engine. I am going forced induction and the engine is running 10.1 compression now. At most 9psi of boost. Really I only want to go 6psi of boost. So you can see why I am looking at all the angles. I have forged internals and the car is only driven a few hundred miles a year. But still I want it to last a while.
Mike I didn't know APE did tuning on 3rd gens? I hope they do as it will need it. I can't wait for the next few weeks to be over and things be done. Right now I am trying to find the best deal.

Chris,
Actually i'm not positive that APE does PROM burning, but if not at least you'd have dyno readings to go by and maybe Brad (RedIroc) can burn you one or you can have Ed Wright do it.

I'm still learning how to tune. Haven't even done a really in deapth burn yet and I already gained 5mph and .7 at the track. That was my first real burn. Who knows, maybe this motor may have gone 13.5 or lower if I were to have tuned it perfectly. We'll never know. Its a long journey learning to tune properly.
Chris, putting a supercharger on that bad boy?

I'd go with www.fasterproms.com if you want a chip burnt. $350 for the "buy in". You give them the specs and they burn a chip. They take sensor readings and reburn. They do it once more to make sure it is on then you pay them the $350. If you do major mods and need to reburn then you go thru the process mentioned again. At the end of it, you pay them $150
