Cutting rear stock springs?

What are the effects of cutting the rear springs a bit? Say 1" or 1.5" to bring the back end down/level, assume with some good quality Bilstein shocks? If its OK, what part is best to cut from, bottom or top of the spring?

Thanks!

I personally wouldn't reccomend cutting the springs.

If you want to lose an inch or sooff the rear, you could always take out the big rubber spring seat and replace it with a piece of rubber heater hose though.
Hopefully someone here knows about this little trick and will chime in. I have heard of several people doing this before, but haven't seen it in person.

I think that there was a fairly lengthy post lately about it on this forum as well. You might do a search for it and see what you come up with.

Do you mean level with the front? Its raked on purpose actually.

If you just mean the back driver side, then you could probably cut only a half inch and go from there. Seems like every Camaro has this issue, of the drivers rear being higher.

If you plan on driving the car on the street also, then don't cut more than 1 coil from the spring. Even that much will give you a harsh street ride; I did it. You must cut from the top of the spring, you will raise the spring rate way, way too much if you cut the bottom coil.

I would suggest removing the upper spring rubber cushions first and see how you like the look. That won't change the spring rate a measurable amount.

Thanks guys. Good idea, I'll try removing the bushing or a thinner one first before I cut anything. Would be to level it out a bit with the front.
