I've got a t-56 sitting on my shop floor right now that has no 3rd and 4th. I was wondering since I have to rebuild it anyways is it possible to build one for a motor that makes upwards of 600 ft/lb of torque at the flywheel? This is going to be a street/strip application so I am thinking that if i can't build it for that should I just stay with the th400 thats in it now?

I've seen T-56's behind 800+ Ft-lbs. You will have to performance rebuild it, but after that you shouldn't have any problems.

it can handle it! 2 tips.... first is upgrade the 3/4 shift fork to a viper ashift fork, second, send gears, cluster , input, and output shaft out to be cryogenically frozen, then buy a mcleod street twin.

trust me i know from experience :)
