Hey ive been looking around at some different amps and was looking to spend under 350 on a nice mono amp. I have picked out a couple on ebay, but which ones would you guys suggest?

BTW the amp will power these 2 12 inch rockford fosgate subs.

--MTX 81000d -Looks like a good solid amp and i like the mtx name
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3010060730&category=18797

--Jbl 1200.1 -Good price, but im skeptical of the power rating
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3009646246&category=18797

--Jl Audio 500/1 - A little pricey, but from what ive heard a high quality amp that is underated in power
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3010694667&category=18797

These are the 3 amps im leaning towards with the mtx being the one i like the most. I would really appreciate some help on picking an amp out, and please suggest other amps than the 3 listed if you think they are the best.

Thanks for any help.

Yea its gonna be a toss up between the jbl and the mtx. I like what i hear from the jbl........but i just think the mtx looks like a higher quality amp and would play a little cleaner than the jbl (but i guess i could be wrong (edit: i probably am wrong))

Anyone else can help me out?

Are you guys insane? If you want a good amp then get Hifonics, you do not know what good amp means until youve seen this one.

The JBL will output MORE then rated power. Probably around 1300WRMS@2ohms. It is stable to 1 ohm but outputs the same. The JL is the best quality out of the three, but the most expensive. The JBL gives you the most power for the cash. I don't know what other features the MTX has, but if it has anything more then a regular LP crossover, I say get it. (Because that's all the JBL has)

Actually I wasn't comparing JBL to Hifonics. I was giving some info to the creater of this post. Hence the space in between comments. Oh and the colossus isin't even close to the most powerful amp out now. 1200x2@ 1ohm or 2400x1@ 2ohm. There is quite a few amps around that can output more then that. And it's by no means #1 in SQ. Hifonics makes good gear...... but far from "the best". And hey, don't they also make Crunch amps??? :D

Yea im not looking for some insane amp to go to competitions with, so the rated power around the 3 amps i listed is what im looking for. Something to push my subs, but not anything to expensive or to powerful where i would have to upgrade my whole electrical system just to power the amp. Thanks for your help guys.

I stand by my previous statement...

A zapco 9.0 or a Us 2000x would lay that pyramid oops I mean Hifonics to waste in sound quality and power. Many years ago before Hifonics sold out they were great now just another flea market amp. Yes Crunch is owned by the same company.
As far as the original question the jbl would work great. Also check out Cadence, Xtant, and Mmats. You can find a Mmats d100, d200, d300 on ebay sometime for around $300 and they all do somewhere in the neighborhood of 1700 watts rms and are very efficient.

I wasn't gonna name any names, but yeah..... that's just a few companies that could pound on Hifonics.

Although, Hifonics isin't in the same catagory as Pyramid....

I wasn't gonna name any names........ but US Amps is one of the most highly respected manufacters around. And that IS a fact. I would like to see anyone argue with that. Anyone?

Just let it be know that hifonics isin't THE BEST at anything.

they are great bang for the buck amps for sure, and the Crossfire amps are certainly getting to be better quality than they used to be... hell now they actually do the rated power, and don't melt down nearly as much (talking about the new 1000D compared to the old).

I still wouldn't put them in the same category as Avionixx, Arc, US Amps, Zapco, Sinfoni, Brax, Helix, Mc Intosh, Mmats... etc.

PPI is great...... but I think I would put them in the same catagory as the new Crossfire's. I don't think either of them are in the same catagory as Brax or McIntosh.

Chirst, I don't know where you guys pull out all these audio manufacturer names from. It seems like every audio post I read I never hear the same company name twice of these "mystical" high-end companies. Don't get me wrong, I'm not flaming you guys: I'm sure you know more about it than I do. (I only know about all the performance manufacturers ;) ) Just seems amazing to me that there are so many high-end companies that I've never heard of and don't advertise or are well-known. Guess I need to read more car audio mags and less GMHTP.

The reason you don't hear the names of the boutique amps thrown around alot is because they are just that, stratoshperically priced amps that lend themselves to a uber-high end section of the market that doesn't want to have anything Mass Produced or Mass marketed. It's the same way when you get into audiophile home systems. You only recognize the names if you keep up with who's "in" with the "in crowd" so to speak. For most the amps are almost completely useless as they would do better with lesser components, more equalization and time spent on the install setting things up right to produce good soundstaging and imaging. Same reason you would buy an AudioM mid range and put it in the stock location, it doesn't make any sense.
