Oil Rings gone bad?
Oil Rings gone bad?
Ok here is the deal. I keep fouling #7 plug, and when I take it out it is covered with oil. I foul it about every 300 miles. I took all of my spark plug wires off today to check the resistance on all of them, and they are ok. I even swapped cylinders 5 and 7 at the opti, and nothing. I pulled the idle air control valve, and the injector wires on all the cylinders, and when I pull the cylinder 7 wire, the idle stays the same. I just got a new plug, and am going to try this one last time. My question is, is it unusual for an oil ring to go at 89,600 miles. I did a compression check, and cylinder 7 is at about 150psi. Could an oil ring be bad, but still get decent compression because the compression ring is still fine? I just hope I dont have to fork out the money for a 355. Thanks.
If you pull the #7 injector plug, and the idle stays the same, then the cylinder is not firing for some reason. Either no fuel or spark. Opti maybe or injector, I dont know, but if the idle drops on all other cylinders, but not on the #7, it's not firing.
I know #7 is not firing, but the questions is why. It keeps fouling out a plug, but I dont know why. I have not touched the car for a long time. I have barley even driven it. My questions is could an oil ring be bad to cause it to fould and the plug be covered in otl?
Ok if I understand your problem, disconnecting the injector has no effect right? If you have an O-scope you could see if the injector is being triggered. Since we don't have one try swapping injectors. While your there, look at the #7 injector and see what it looks like.
Either the injector is clogged, stuck or shot or it isn't being triggered swapping will tell the story. Fix this problem and chances are the fouling problem will go away. Capesh

I'd pull the wire, attach another plug, and make sure it's firing. If you can't see the spark, put it on you tongue. If you make a face like this
you know it's firing
.
Make sure the wire is at the correct ohm level and isn't arching out on something touching or isn't burned.
Make sure the compression tests show all cylinders within around 10% of each other.

I know it is not the plug wire. I also swapped 2 wires at the opti. When I change the plug it runs fine, but it has only been like 100 miles now, and it is starting to run like crap again. I have done a compression test, but only on 2 cylinders. I guess I have something that I need to do now.
