StealthElephant 02-12-2003, 06:08 PM How is it done on a carbed car? I read somewhere that ram charging can give up to 30 more HP at higher speeds....maybe not that much, but a free 15-20 HP is more then enough reason to have a duel snorkel ready when the 350 goes in. Does anyone make a kit? A K&N is probably going on top the carb...where do you put the duct? behind the fogs? I saw a picture of someone setup but i couldnt' see where they lead too....also is there anything to cover up the old TPI baffle area where the old filters used to go, since once that Y cover comes off it doesn't look too pretty (also i took a saw and cut out all those baffles and other flow restricting crap)

You could easily rig it to scoop air by removing the high beams and cutting the headlight bucket, but I won't go that far.
StealthElephant 02-12-2003, 06:33 PM Yep that's your pic i saw before, where do the snorks grab air from right now...it looks like the hood would close on them....running behind teh fogs light would be half decent but thats more turns and distance to travel....
Sitting Bull 02-12-2003, 08:24 PM The dual snorkle knocks 1/4 second off the times of cars with the single snorkle cleaner.
TheGreatJ 02-12-2003, 08:27 PM They take air from right under the edge of the hood above the headlights. Since there's positive air pressure caused by the headlight "pocket" when driving at highway speed, it is actually a very good place to take air from. However, the proximity of the hood does restrict the flow a bit.
And to cover the TPI air cleaner hole.....just get the panel from a TBI or carbed car at any given junkyard.
StealthElephant 02-12-2003, 09:09 PM I'm kinda confused, does a company like K&N make a filter with an enclosure and tubing...cause the filter needs a case, then you have 2 holds in the case that the air goes through into the case that encloses the filter right?
that setup above looked real clean...
stonedchihuahua 02-12-2003, 11:52 PM my question would be... I though gm only made the tubing to come off the one side on all the camaros??? where did you get the passenger side one?

Read his post again. It's from a High Output :p 305. You should be able to find one in a junkyard, or you could make your own very cheap.
stonedchihuahua 02-13-2003, 02:31 AM Hmm well considering I never see high outputs I wouldn't know.. and don't get smart I don't interpret words too well.. I realize it said high output 5.0 but 5.0 is generally how you referr to a ford thing... also I haven't seen high ouputs other than in the T/As they are out there... just no without sight of me
Ace_437 02-13-2003, 02:37 AM Sorry dude. I wasn't "getting smart" with you, just pointing out someting you might have missed. The 5.0 is just a volume measurement, it has nothing to do with Ford, Chevy, Mopar, or any other manufacturer. If I were you I'd just make my own dual snorkel housing. I read an article in Super Chevy magazine a few years ago where they did the exact same thing. Basically all you have to do is find another single snorkel houseing, remove the tubing, and attach it to your current housing. Of course you'll have to do a bit more that that (drill, dremel, that sort of thing) but It should be pretty easy. Oh, and the :p was about the "High Output" of the 5.0 (305). LT1 all the way baby!
stonedchihuahua 02-13-2003, 02:40 AM Well I don't really care what it is off of or about 305 high output... I'm jsut grumpy today.. don't take anything I say to heart..
I know what 5.0 referrs to... thing is most chev guys tend to say 305 and leave the 5.0 thing to mustang guys.... just used to it being said by the different groups doesn't mean anything really just the way I'm used to..
as for the 305 5.0 thing.. **** IT!!!! I want money to do up my damn 400!!!

I understand you being grumpy, and I didn't take it to heart. I never do. Anyway, if I were you I'd put my money in a tried and true 350 and skip the 400. You'll get more power out of the 350, and it will be hell of alot more reliable and cheaper to maintain. If your trying to do something more "unique" and not follow the crowds, why not look for a 327? There should be alot out there, and you can make crazy HP with those things. I'd kill to have a nice 3rd gen with a bad-a$$ 327. :D
stonedchihuahua 02-13-2003, 03:02 AM tried true and boring...
400 if built the same will get more HP and tourque... than a 350... no replacement for displacement... besides... who the hell wants to look forward to maybe ONE day haveing a twin turbo 350 when you could look forward to having a twin turbo 400...
I dunno I hear too many people knock the 400s... they say that they overheat and a bunch of crap like that.. nobody I have talked to has ever actually seen this but they all say it's true... any dumbass can find a way to build a motor... it takes someone smart enough to figure out a way to build that motor and have it run perfectly...
if I had the cash and this was a completly drag car I might destroke my 400 so that it was a 352... it'd be good for the strip... but not so good for the street
Marc 85Z28 02-13-2003, 06:52 PM stonedchihuahua - I've got another one, but without the ducting. The ducts and tubes are VERY hard to come by, and GM no longer sells them. I bought my aircleaner from TVP (board member) about 4 years ago, and got the ducts and tubes from GM. You can still find the aircleaner on EBay for cheap (2 on auction right now). Rarely do you see a complete setup though, and when you do, they want insane prices. Oh, and like stated above, they are good for at least .25 off your times. I've seen mag tests at .5 seconds even! I felt a BIG difference with mine, back when I had a stock 305. I wouldn't even think of that $hitty single setup that restricts down to 1"x2" on anything over 140HP!
About the 5.0/305 thing. It actually states "5.0 High Output" on the aircleaner. That's why I called it a 5.0 HO aircleaner. :) BTW - Ford never made a 5.0 ;)
www.ramairbox.com makes similar kits.

The Ford 302 calculates to 4.96 liters...I always liked that :D
stangkilla1 02-15-2003, 10:35 AM Thanks for the info guys. I've been tryin to find out how to do the dual set-up ever since I saw it on another camaroz28.com members car. I'm rockin the small "pretty" air cleaner right now but pretty does'nt help 1/4 times at all. To anyone with a 3rd gen with a chrome open air cleaner, get rid of it!!! I have to change filters every month (thats too much).

Do you still have the hood insulation? If so, tear it off and throw it away. That's what is clogging that air filter so fast.
stangkilla1 02-16-2003, 11:14 PM Actually it is still there. I was wondering about taking it down cause it's old but I did'nt know if that was going to affect the paint on the hood when I get it painted (boiling it from the underside), but I'll snatch it down anyway.
QuicksilverZ28 02-17-2003, 10:44 PM hey guys I have a dual snorkel set up for sale if anyone is interested, the scoops and hoses are only a year old and in perfect condition, the air cleaner itself is in great condition no rust or anything, and it also comes with a K&N filter, make me and offer if any of you guys want it mattbrown@erols.com
