Can anybody recommend shop in DFW area to Dyno Tune LT1?

I recently installed a solid roller 392 in my 95 Formula. I have a mail order tune that leaves a little something to be desired. I have LT1 Edit, but not the patience or the time or knowledge to keep reflashing my PCM trying to get it better.

Can anybody recommend a shop in DFW area that could do an excellent job of tuning my PCM? Somebody on www.ls1tech.com recommended 21st Century Musclecars. Anybody have anything good or bad to say about them? Any other shops I should look into?

Also, what can I expect costwise?

Thanks,

Dave

I did a search for dyno testing in Lewisville, I figured it's closer to you than Dallas, and I found this on corvetteforum.com. This is directly off their vendor page, but I have heard many good things about these guys. www.txspeedworks.com :

"Speedworks was founded based on the dream and vision of Dan Sawyers and Keith Lohse. Speedworks focuses on making their customer racers successful. This is demonstrated in the fact that a large part of their performance enhancement and tuning business is from previous customers. They are sought out by independent race teams and racing schools alike for the most difficult of engine tuning challenges. Their 8 bay shop in Lewisville, Texas north of Dallas includes the latest in-ground Dynojet chassis dynamometer, gentle above ground lifts for custom exhaust and drive train work, in addition to custom PCM computer programming facilities for the LT1, LT4, & LS1 from 94 through 2000 (2001-02 will be available very shortly). They’ve also developed strategic relationships with a top CNC shop for the custom design and build of spec engine performance packages, or you can choose from one of their prepackaged flex performance offerings."

Hope that helps!

Thanks,

I will have to give them a call. No one else has any good experiences with any other shops in the area?

From what I've heard Arlington Motrosports (AMS) has one of the best tuners in the country. I have been there personaly and they are competent. http://www.arlingtonmotorsports.com/

21st Century is nice and are competent as well but they prefer to work on LS-1's(corvette's) and vipers. http://www.21stcenturymusclecars.com/

Speedworks shop isn't as nice as 21st Century's but they know their stuff. You're not going to a company for what their shop looks like anyhow. They will do what ever you want. www.txspeedworks.com

Go to AMS or Speedworks.

Ok, that's what I thought. I haven't been there in a while and didn't know if Chris had left. If you go with Ed Wright, make sure it is not a generic tune.

I don't want to use Ed Wright because he is $500+ for tuning your pcm on the dyno. But cost doesn't matter near as much as the fact that he will lock my pcm and I will no longer be able to use my LT1 Edit...unless I want the pcm reflashed and lose all his tuning. So anytime I changed gears or decided I needed my fans to come on earlier I would have to go back to Ed and pay him to program for such a simple change, I believe additional changes are $100 a pop or so.

21st Century is nice and are competent as well but they prefer to work on LS-1's(corvette's) and vipers. http://www.21stcenturymusclecars.com/
Yep, they got back with me and let me know they did not currently tune LT1 pcms.

I was considering AMS as well...anybody know what they charge? Right now Speedworks is looking like who I will use. They are very competitive in price and I haven't heard any bad comments about their ability.

Thanks for the input.

Speedworks by far. Keith and the guys there are terrific, they know what they are doing, take thier time and treat your car like it was their own. They are the ONLY shop around here I will let dyno my cars. They haven't done anything on my SS, yet, but I can tell you they did great work on my '66 Shelby.

As part of tuning the pcm along with tuning for max power on dyno....do they normally drive the car a bit and determine what changes need to be made for driveability as well? But I will find out more about that tomorrow when I call them.
