Cam Question???

I understand most of the specs of cams, but what does the LSA mean? what will say, a 114 LSA do different than a 112 LSA? I thought that the 112 would make a better loping sound, but I'm not sure. And I thought that 114s were usually just for forced induction engines? Thanks for your help.

LSA stand for lobe spread angle the tighter the lobe the more aggressive it will sound.

Yeah it's also the configuration of the cam in relation to the actual spacing of the intake and exhaust lobes from each other to get more technical. Yes the tigther the nicer and looaper it will sound. I think the reason forced induction motors use a 114 LSA more so then a 112 is just to spare life on the valvetrain it's self.

114 will idle a little better and it will love nitrous and forced induction but it still makes a good street cam. i am running the cc305 on a 114lsa and my car runs makes about 350rwhp, gets 23 mpg on the highway with 3.73s, and idles well. you can definitely tell the car is not stock though but its nothing wild.

So would a 224-236 be an okay cam to run on a moderately built valve train? It is on a 114 LSA, so would it be about like the cc306 on a 114? Thanks

306 is on a 112. I don't know why anyone would by a cam like that and want it on a 114 even for forced induction purposes.

This would be a little wilder than the cc306 right? Because I think that is 220-230. Would this be a safe cam to run on a daily driven NA car, the 224-236 that is?

I have heard of people with a 306 on a 114, but why do you say it wouldn't be a good cam on a 114?

306 is 230-244 it's a pretty damn big cam. The specs you have work out to be a pretty good streetable cam, anything on 114 would have a smooth idle. I say get.

So the 224-236 on a 114 LSA would still be an alright cam right? I just dont want to get something I can't use.

a 112 LSA has what is called overlap. it is where the intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time. this is also what give it the characteristic sound of an old muscle car. the tigher the lobe seperation...the more overlap you get or the more amount of time the exhaust and intake valves are open in conjunction. this is NOT what you want on a nitrous or S/C car because you dont want all that boost or nitrous going right thru your motor before you ever get to use it... kind of a waste of money and power.

LSA also plays a part in vacuum. a 112 will typically have less vacuum than a 114 and that will hurt power assisted brakes and ultimately gas mileage.

Alright, so a 114 isn't really a bad choice for street use. I can get a really good deal on the 224-236 right now, so I guess I am gonna get it.
