what's the fastest camaro V6 out there...streetable i mean

i would like to know what is the true potential of the camaro V6?? it seems fast on the streets.....well my GF would like to buy them....thanks

THe fastest 100 % streetable non-juiced guy I would say is Tiago, he has almsot all custom setup but is running a turboed 3.4L tht ran a 13.5, with some tuning, issues, his car ran better at part throttole then full throttle. Either way his car is his daily driver.

Shirl's car, is nitrosed and juiced, and its on the stock suspension.

12secondv6, is still running the stock cam I think and he is in the 12.

yes it is true tiago has a 13.5 turboed 3.4. BUT, he is the only one. yes magnus pulled 13.XX without nitrous. BUT AGAIN he is the only one. impressive times for a V6 fbody, but not everyday times.

Yee of little faith. Yes the 4th gen v6 fbody is slow, compared to the LT1 & LS1. Few have truely committed to achiving fast times w/ their v6's. Heck I've only been to the track twice w/ my v6. In the next yr or 2 you'll see a lot more ppl put down some stellar v6 times.

The 3.8 in our cars has a lot of potential. Depending on how much money you're willing to put into it of course. I ran a 14.3 and my car is a daily driver. Back and forth to work everyday. It's not the fastest by far, but she can hold her own. You win some, and you loose some. That's just "racing". If you're looking for fast......like everyone else will tell you.....just get a V-8. If you're looking for pride in a quick V-6, you better be independantly wealthy or go rob a bank cuz it's not cheap. Gotta pay to play.;)

I didn't really mention Magnus's car N/A he did run 13s, but I am not to sure of the everyday streetability of the car. I mean did you here the clip of his car with the cam?


Also a guy Joe palermos was running 14 flats, hitting his speed limiter about before the end of the 1/4 mile, he was probable another 13 second v6 f-body that was daily driven, but he got rid of he car before they came out with a way to get rid of a speed limiter.

WIth a 3.8L I woudln't expect a huge amount more then 14s with and 100% streetable, if you stay N/A.

How does my car not count? I ran 12.3 with only a 100 shot in a VERY streetable setup with full exhaust ON the car just with the cat removed. My car was more streetable back then than it is now.

I also drive my car ALL the time. It's very streetable.

And as for that cam clip, i mentioned it many times that I popped a vacuum line off for effect. It idles much smoother than that noramlly.

3.8's definately have a lot of potential, it just takes patience and the proper setup. It really doesn't take a lot of $$$ either.

In an automatic a simple intake/exhaust/converter/gear will go a long way. To get the most out of it at the track though you'll need a good tire. :)

Not one 3800 Maro has ever even dyno'd 200WHP w/o a power adder. Knowing that they are 16x stock it's easy to see why most people aren't that fast.

they are more of a high 15 to low 16 stock car...


I did pull a 15.8, first time I ran my dad's stck 2000 camaro with 7,000 miles on it.

Both Mike Huff and Tyrunt Rolle dyno'd over 200 rwhp.

3.8's with 3.42's stock are a 15.2-15.3 sec car up here in chicago in good weather. Seen it happen time and time again. With 3.08s they are a 15.5-15.6 sec car.

Also, just for kicks I took my car out for lunch and drove around in the snow and slipper roads. It did not burst into a ball of fire nor did I lose control and flip into a ditch. I did not kill any birds or squirrels from polution nor did I have to fill up the tank with 100+ octain every few blocks.

as for streetability, yes I also agree that keith's car is streetable, the definition of streetable may be different for each one, but IMO his car is fine.

The fastest V6 F-car I know of is a 3rd gen. It is not street legal, and races in the NMCA (I think). It was in a past issue of Car Craft. He had a N20 backfire, so there were some flames shooting from under the hood. I think he has a 400+ci engine :think:

I think (and am willing to bet) a 4th gen V6 with the 3800 series 2 engin can get into the 11's on a stock cam.
Dyno #'s don't mean that much because I have run 2 14.4's and I only put down 170 rwhp and 200 rwtq.
As for nitrous times, all I do is spin :(

I wonder how many of those cars are capable of driving in the rain/snow, take turns faster then 10mph. :rolleyes: Do they even start in the winter with those tiny drag only batteries? Or how does it drive in the rain/snow with no windshield washer fluid or at night with no headlights? Sucks to just drive around with no radio or speakers. It's a cold floor with no carpet in the winter. Hard to give anyone a ride with no seats, unless one has no social life.

Some would call the return path to the trailer a street.

I drive with no washer fluid too and that was the dumbest thing I've ever done to the car. I wouldn't call that streetable to stop at a gas station just to wash the winshield so I can keep driving on the street.

I wouldn't even call 4.10s highwayable.

Just because the back half of my carpet is removed doesn't mean my car won't run on the street... Let me add a few little comments in on this now....

My car has a TH400 tranny ( NO OVERDRIVE ) and I drove my car to towns 100 miles away...it didn't blow up the tranny is still strong.... I have no rear seats, no washer fluid tank, and I put gas in the car twice the whole night. Meaning once when I left and once when I got back....I think that is streetable


Just because we don't drive our cars in those conditions doesn't mean that we CAN'T. We just choose not too because these are our pride and joy. I have a daily driver for that crap. Once in awhile I might get caught in the rain but it is no big deal.

Tell you what you choose a track, we will all DRIVE to the track, race and then drive home....Then would you consider our cars streetrable....????

If you like driving at 3K+ RPMs for a few hours at a time on the highway, that's fine. I don't and most people don't.

I didn't have my PCM reprogrammed. Do you have any clue as to what a PCM does? It controls shifts and top speed. So I can't even run a full 1/4. I had to coast to that 14.8 while shifting at 5500-5700. I hit 14.8 at only 83mph.

You have 2 other cars so you can rice the one you have now. I only have 1 car and I'm not going to do anything more to it until I get a second one. Some of us have prorities in life.

If so what would she like from it? How agressive does she want to go, what kind of budget does she have?

If she wants it to remain somewhat "plesant" you could always do intake and skip exhaust and perhaps a nicer gear and maybe a little bit of torque converter to help.

Also depends on the year too though. 00+'s usually come close to hitting 14's at the track practically stock in good conditions.

i have an exhaust off a z28, and with just whisper lid and powershot filter ran a 14.92 at 92.2 mph

i have a few more mods since then, so it goes to show that not all v6's are slow.
i drive a manual of course...i can DRIVE it.

Actually a big reason a lot of people (esp. women) prefer the Mustang to the F-body is that they think the f-body has too much power. Even the 6... look in the 5th gen discussion, there is a thread that says that exactly... straight from SS. The have the potential to be 14 second cars relatively easily, and 13 second cars with the right power adder.

Even worse I autocross and drag race on the same setup.

Then again I am not cosidered fast...

I can tell you 3.42s with a 5-speed are a very nice and mild setup, even on the highway.

As for the v6 stang over f-body, I think the bigger choice for women picking stangs is do to driving ability. If you have Drive a stang in a parking lot then drive an F-body. F-body is easy to us but when you first drove one it probable felt kind of big an bulky but that is something you get over quickly, but not when you tyest drive 2 cars int he same day.

Basically if you want ot keep the car kinda every day driveable to the nice person, I would do.

3.42s w/LSD, 1 piece driveshaft, Lid/CAI, catback exhasut(I would choose a v8 Catback, its very tame, sounds the best in my opinion, and yields some decent gains. igniton won't hurt but isn't going to get you amazing times.

Those right there will pep up the car and probable put it in the lower 15s, maybe 14s. And be very comfortable.

I am just going by what my girlfriend would find acceptable. :)

Word up on that. The first time I drove my bird I felt like I was steering an Oil Tanker using only a spoon as the tiller. I also thought that I couldnt see the road in front of me.

This is, of course, after having driven a very easy sterring Cherokee with great visibility.

The only thing I do different at the track is take out my spare/jack/passenger seat and turn oiff the radio and climate control.

Then again, Im not fast either...im only at 15.19 @91.6 mainly stock :D

I yank jack and spare, but then again I usually keep that yanked 24/7 :)

Sigh, this is EXTREMELY depressing to see the V6 community like this. Come on guys, we get sh*t sometimes for owning V6's. We need to stay together!!!! If you do not like someone just don't talk to them. It is MUCH easier this way then seeing this bickering.

I drive my bird in the rain and snow but recently I bought a mercury sable so I can explore more options with my bird and try and go faster and lighter.
Take turns faster than 10, eh, kinda iffy. I had to replace a bent a arm due to a curb incident and I came across a group purchase for k member, a arms, and manual steering rack. I jumped on it and bought the drag k member which does not have the ability to use a front sway bar.
I have a full size red top Optima battery
I have a washer fluid resevoir.
I have headlights.
I had accidently messed up the wiring with my stereo. I drove around w/ a complete system in the car but it did not work. I was moving towards a more track car vs street car. I felt I did not need to have a functioning stereo in the bird because I drove around since the spring w/ it not working and I really did not care. To me it was extra weight. Since the head unit is gone I plan on installing a pair of pyrometer guages there to monitor cylinder temp via 2 banks (left and right).
I have full carpet, the sound deadening is removed though. I have just joined a group purchase for a light weight new carpet. My stock carpet has 1 burn mark and 1 hole.
I normally have 2 front seats in the bird. If I am hitting the track I sometimes ditch it but not always. If I am going for new bests then yes, it is gone. If it is a day for r/t's then no.

my weight mods:

no back seat, but really I use it for cargo. When I got to balance tires or to autox and need to fit 4 wheels with tires mounted on them along with tools. I have holes in my light weight carpet all over the place so even less weight. :D Passanger seat comes out at the track. Bumper supports gone. And I managed to hit a few things in the meantime. Too lazy to put them back. Windshield tank is gone. Now when it snows or rains or there is crap on the roads and a semi drives by me, I have to stop and clean the windshield. Didn't think about this one when I did it. And no I can't put it back cause I broke the line in a few places. Air bags were blown long before I was into racing.

I'd really like to borrow some skinnies and drags from local harcore racers one time. I don't see myself spending money on something I'll use 2-3 days out of the year.

When I chpose the K member I had the option for a street or drag version
The street version has places for a front sway bar
The drag version does not.
I figured that since I was not running a sway bar already I no longer needed it.

As for monitoring cylinder temps: Nitrous will quickly increase cylinder temps. Especially high hp shots 150-200 hp levels. If all of a sudden I see the cylinder temps rise then I know to let off so I can prevent a head gasket problem or MUCH worse.

I would dump my rear seats, but They woudl bump me up to race in autocross if I did, I have the back seat disconnected, so I jsut pull it and chuck it in the trunk, putting weight on the rear tires, all ~20 lbs of it.

am not doing any weight reduction except swap my interior with light weight carpet, and move the batt to the back... i need all my seats :P my whole point is to have a car where i can fit 4 ppl :) (i've fitted 5 in my car b4 :o)
