sleeperZragtop 01-28-2003, 03:44 PM ...how in gods name did you fit those wheels in the rear....the C5 wheels I got are way to wide...they are 18"x10.5" and I need over an inch and a half to clear the the inner wells....even if I remove the bump stop I'm still short about 3/4"...that's not even with the tires....I looks like I'm gonna have to do some wheel well bashing:cry:
Punisha69 01-28-2003, 04:20 PM wanna buy my wheels?:p
JD30thZ28 01-28-2003, 04:23 PM I've got 17X11 ZR-1 rims. It all depends on the off-set, you may need some spacers on your application. I had to do minor work on the inside of the wheels wells. On perry's car we had to do a lot more work to make room, inlcuding removal of the bump stop.
sleeperZragtop 01-28-2003, 04:25 PM ..way too heavy:D ...they did look good on my car though..I'm sure once you clean em up they'll be easy to sell..hey BTw, where were you last night..I seen Payam, Jack and Andy...but you bailed on them...WTF...come see me...
sleeperZragtop 01-28-2003, 04:26 PM Thanks Johnny, I had a good reply on the LS1 section...I will have to shave the bump stop but I may have to goto smaller tires....295 to a 275...bummer:cry:

Thats Dave Hewson. A great guy who knows a lot about suspesion.
sleeperZragtop 01-28-2003, 06:24 PM 3 pewter LS1's & White Rock beach...two things that go hand and hand...
sideways_Into_3rd 01-28-2003, 08:49 PM hey man
my 17x11 wheels with 315 rubber fit in the back without ANY banging or modification .. it doesnt rub or anything at all :D i stuck my hand up the wheel well and there seems to be .5" of clearance at the tightest point :D :D :D :D
its an LT1 thing ;)
but seriously, u just bought the wrong offset .. my wheels have a mad offset spacer built into them ...
though my FRONT wheels seem to be rubbing the wells :(... gotta look into that soon
sleeperZragtop 01-28-2003, 08:55 PM ...no I think it's becasue it's a vert, correct me if I'm wrong but it seems though everything that fit's an f-body dosen't fit a vert...everything I bought was for "vert only"....you have to remember, we need the xtra bracing from the factory...the wheels are stock C5 offsets...I don't really know for sure why they are having a hard time going in....I'll manage...
sideways_Into_3rd 01-28-2003, 09:01 PM im sure u can manage .. but even if u get the ZR1 style wheels like mine and JD's in the GS offset (Y boddy offset) u'll have to do ao lotta banging ... my wheels were made for an Fbody.
LuCiFeR97Z28 01-28-2003, 11:51 PM Mike, what are the exact sizes of your wheels? My C5 rims came from a 99 C5 and fit without a problem. No scraping, no rubbing, nothing. I had them mounted in 275 series rubber on all four corners. I have heard the same thing you have about F-Body Verts...it seems like a totally new set of rules applies to them sometimes :).
BTW - How was JD's birthday???
sleeperZragtop 01-28-2003, 11:56 PM ...how's it going? I hope well....JD's birthday was good, missed you guys..he had nothing but good things to say about you..anyway the wheels are 17x8.5 up front and 18x10.5 in the rear..I'm gonna head out to Surrey tonight and mess around with it...it should be fine, just alot of mending...I need that car on the road to feel the TC and FLP's...I'm already dreading how loud it will be will the loudmouth, ORP and the headers...I may have to rid of the Loudmouth and go for true duel setup..we'll see...take care bro;
Mike
LuCiFeR97Z28 01-29-2003, 12:05 AM IMO your 10.5's out back with the 275's will look and feel amazing. My car felt like it was on train tracks, even before the BMR suspension went it. As for your other mods, including that new cam, your car will definitely make some power this season. Let me know when you're working this weekend - we should all go out after you, JD, George, and the boys are done work.
Good luck with the car...can't wait for a ride in the droptop :).
97TA-WS6-Con 01-29-2003, 12:08 AM In my experience there is no differnence between the converts and the coupes re: wheel sizes. Seems to be a bit of an urban legend. AFS to this DAY say the wheels with the GS offset will not fit converts. I even sent them a picture LOL
I have the ZR1 wheels from AFS. I had to do some banging in the rear wheel well but nothing i did not expect or do difficult.
Steve in Seattle 01-29-2003, 12:51 AM Convertibles have no different wheel wells than regular F-bodies. Plenty of convertible owners run 17x11 rear tires with the same issues as the base-level cars.
Here's a nice tip however: buy a Pontiac. :)
The ~1" wider 1/4 panels make it possible, nay, PREFERABLE to run the standard GM ZR1 offset (36mm I believe). Chevy 1/4 panels are a bit narrower and cause lip-tire rubbing problems with 315 tires. The solution of course is to run a smaller offset, ala Grand Sport dimentions of 50mm. ;) Doing this however makes for more "massaging" of the wheel well area.
When you take the hammer to your wheel wells, make sure you have some zinc-primer, or some POR-15 on hand to prevent future rust. Undercoating wouldn't hurt either. :)
Check out Brent's page for info on the 17x11" issue, it mentions most of what you need, except for us Pontiac guys which have that extra clearance to run the true GM ZR1 runs (which are lighter than any aftermarket designs and come FORGED for more strength :D)

I may have a GM set lined up for my own use, but I gotta look into the cost to chrome them (in the future), and what I can afford right now. ;)
Steve in Seattle 01-29-2003, 12:56 AM One more thing. While the GM ZR1's came in silver, and the GM Grand Sport rims came in black (which GM no longer makes/sells apparently), there are ZR1-style rims made by AAA Rims, and by AFS which are available in powdercoat colors, chrome, and even this:

deffiently get you noticed... in a good way or not I can't really tell though. May be able to pull it off in a silver or black car I guess. :)
sleeperZragtop 01-29-2003, 12:56 AM ..thanks guys, I'm gonna pick up some 1/4" spacers, remove the bump stops and hopefully I on't have to bang the wells. I need to run this car soon or I'm gonna piss my pants...

I have NO idea WHAT colour car those would look good on. it seems to me that they would either look REALLY good on just the right colour car or CRAP on just about every colour car.
sleeperZragtop 01-29-2003, 01:15 AM Silver with a little pearl...that would be  , a bit overboard for the street, but for SEMA....yes
Zedzag 01-29-2003, 07:20 PM Those red wheels are sweeeeeeet:bow: :barf: :barf: :barf:
