i cant decide! its driving me crazy. i ordered the edelbrock 5658 even though it says 95-97. dont worry i ordered it where i work so i dont have to pay up front and i can send it back. it cost me 335 with intercooled tips. i will have it tomorrow. anyways im so distraught on what it will sound like. i dont wanna waste that money and then it sound like ****, ya know. also i dont wanna lose any power down low because its 3". will i actually lose noticable power? im concerened with torque moving up the rpm scale too high and how it will sound. i have been debating on other setups like dynomax or getting just a z28 muffler that way i wouldnt be out much if it sounded bad and i figure a muffler off a z or y87 wont be too obnoxious and ill get good looks of dual outlet, which is half the reason for exhaust. i dont know what to do but im very anxious to do something. today i heard this late model firebird but it sounded like a fire turd. i dont know what system he had. today about every 5 minutes i had a different exhaust idea. what do you guys think? stay with edelbrock? get a z muffler? dynomax catback or muffler? i know i dont want flowmaster, ravin or magnaflow. thanks.

 

Why dont you want Magnaflow? I've been deciding between the Super Turbo set up from Dynomax and the Magnaflow set up. I've heard the dynomax set up and really like it but havent found anyone with the magnaflow

 

i have not heard an edelbrock, but i have heard a magnaflow and its not good sounding. my friend has one on his and its sounds ugly. just real hollow sounding. kinda of ricey, but everybody has there tastes. i have a borla and love it. too me it could not sound better. if you just want the looks go the z28 takeoff. not loud, just the looks and performance. if not try to get a borla.

Well, if it eases your mind any, I've heard nothing negative on the Edelbrock. I heard a clip and it sounded good but its also hard to go by clips alone.

Personally I'm still debating between B&B, or the cheaper catbacks like edelbrock and american thunder. (someone put a clip of the B&B and other systems up but my comp still won't play sounds )

 

i just got home with my edelbrock. it doesnt fit in my camaro very well. ill get it put on sometime this week and finally END the debate on if edelbrock catback sounds good on a 3.8!!!!!!!!

 

Brother, I debated the Exhaust thing for over a year! , I have a 00 Trans Am muffiler in my basement with the ovel tips, no one would put it on for me cuz it was cat back and one piece! Still would love to here it on and see what it was like cuz it cost me $100

But anyway,

I went with the Borla cuz I couldnt find too many cat back systems out there for the V6, it is stainless steal which sold me(never have to change it) it sounds pretty cool (sounded like A$$ till it burnt in)

Single outlet was definately a stuped one by GM, if they put the Y87 or Z28 set up on every V6 it would of been cool

Dont worry about performance loss, mine only felt faster with 3"

 

you are worried about your exhaust sound? lol , i had never heard any V6 f-bodies with an aftermarket exhaust system when i put mine on, lol. i never really thought about worring aobut the sound

 

Well, you got the good sounding engine. So nahh.

To be honest, sound is the first thing that got me interested in cars. THough it doesn't need to sound like a V8, just good.

And not worry? But there are so many choices!
I'm going to get my computer fixed and listen to some of those clips (been putting it off for a few MONTHS now)

B&B: good reviews, but its not too quiet at idle and down low is it???
Borla: some dont like the upper rpms, but other say cai and lid will help, how much though?
Dynomax: I"ve read so many different things about this system I feel my brain has been violated...yet I don't remember what the clip I heard sounds like.
Edelbrock: sounds good from the clip,
American Thunder: supposedly sounds good until 5000 rpms, but it does have a resonator-I thought that was to cancel out bad sounds...and does it sound much like my 40 delta series?.



Exhaust sound is too subjective, just have to jump out there and try something.
For me it'll be either B&B or edelbrock...or i could go with borla with cai...here i go again.
