Lordstown, OH assembly plant to get new product
Well, I am 99.99999999999% sure it wouldn't be a Camaro, but our local GM plant, and pretty much only reason our community is still on the map, announced it will get a new product in the fall of 2004.
GM announced it will invest over $500,000,000 in updates for the plant, which currently builds the J-car (Cavalier, Sunfire)
I would imagine it will get the new Delta car, or whatever replaces the Cavalier. If Sunfire is infact killed off totally after the current body style runs through, I'd imagine Cavalier might be built alongside some sort of Saturn version on Delta...
Anyway, this was great news for our area... because, it's pretty much what keep us from becoming a ghost town!

Isn't the Lordstown plant one of the biggest that GM has? Back when I worked at a dealership, we got this GM newsletter every month and they did a article on it. It was unreal the amount of raw materials that went into that plant. I forget how many millions of gallons of water per day or week. And how much electricity it used was scary.

Sup Darth,
What kinda f-body u driving. I"m from Boardman, OH and i got a 95' Camaro 3.4L. Nice to meet ppl on the board from Youngstown. I'm glad Lordstown got the new contract because this area would be in total SH#$ if it wasn't renewed. Hey just wondering who you work for. Noticed in ur profile ur a computer support guy. I just graduated YSU last fall with a major in CIS and I can't find a job anywhere permanent in this area. Everything i found was only temporary and didn't pay very well.

Hey, I didn't think anyone else from town was on the board!

I used to have (up until about 3 weeks ago) a Bright Red 99 Z28... 6 speed, Borla, etc etc
I still miss her, but it was time to part ways. She had 46,000 and was needing a clutch (I think) and rear brakes, and with all the rebates out there, I couldn't help myself.I, too, graduated from YSU with a BSAS in CIS... (I graduated in 97) I work in Girard for a long term health care company.... I am #2 in a 2 man dept.
It's a little hard to find IT jobs locally right now, but they are out there. Actually, I saw a listing on www.mahoningvalleyhelpwanted.com for an IT position today... check it out, I dont remember the specifics, though

So Darth - what are you driving? Did you take advantage of the cash back (I did)?

There were only like 16 within a 200 mile radius!
And I wanted a 6-speed, and that reduced the number to 5. None of the dealers who had one would trade... so the T/A went out the window. Then I decided I would go for another Camaro (SS or Z) ... same thing. There were a few more V8 Camaros out there, but I still couldnt get one , and most were red, and I didnt want the same exact car...

SO........ to make I ended up buying an 02 Monte Carlo SS... White with Ebony leather. All options except High-Sport package. I love a lot of things about this car.... it is SUPER quiet on the inside, the build quality is a 9.5 out of 10 so far. I like a lot of the features that were unavailable on F-Bodies, such as dual zone climate, trip computer, heated seats.... but I still HATE FWD, the power is adequate, but hardly fun. The handling is obviosuly weaker aroundd corners, but it takes bumps wonderfully.
Overall, I really like the Monte, and my thinking is buy this car, and after the wedding and house get a Vette or a 5th Gen if they are out....
Sorry so long.

Well you could do worse... the Impala/Monte have great crash ratings and lots of room inside. Check out www.clubgp.com for engine mods you can do... a lot of Grand Prix GT owners have enhanced their cars with exhaust (headers, downpipe), rockers, PCM, and other mods.

I just wish I was able to buy a T/A or a Z28 like I wanted....
But, to be totally honest, the way the Monte is put together makes my Camaro feel very old...
Hey guys,
I grew up in Y-Town. Went to liberty High School. I live up in Cleveland now, about 40 minutes from Warren. There is some IT opportunities up here. I work as a Network Engineer at Eaton Corp. BTW- the Lordstown plant actually produced the First year of the f-bodies, I am almost certain of it. Pretty cool that it all started there in the Y-Town area!!! Check out www.Cleveland.com for Jobs. Good Luck

) to have replaced the clutch & the other few odds & ends instead of looking for a Z28 which would have been no different than what you had?

Well, I thought long and hard about that... I really did. It got to the point that I was getting head aches (really...It's sad though, I know
) Anyway...I based my descision from this stuff:
1) The Z28 had 46,000 and no warranty left.
2) I was quoted an avg of $850 to sdo the clutch.
3) The back brakes needed done too.
4) Sadly, it was getting to be kind of creeky on the inside.

5) The insurance was a lot cheaper on the Monte (this wasn't a huge factor, but still...)
6) The Monte's had a $2500 rebate, so that was a nice thing.
I still miss the Z, but I think I made the right choice for right now.

Hey darth..u talking about MVI home care...i had applied to thema nd never heard a thing. I'm beginning to think college is a bunch of ****....im' working for 10bucks an hour when i should be making 40K+. Maybe BOND got some info for me in cleveland. Just seems whatever place i go to apply...150ppl are applying to one freggn' job. It's crazy...should have saved all my college money and bought a new SS or WS6.....hey kids..dont' go to school. BTW i have a 3.5 GPA and 3.8 major gpa...economy sucks right now.
