For those intrested: Finaly cost of my cam job.

I thought I would post this info on my resent cam job, for those that want to know how much it costs. Here is the break down:

CC305 - $240
Crane Spring Kit CRN-10308-1 - $150
PCMforLess tuning - $75
Pro. Valve Adjust - $175 (Strongly Recommended)
Valve Spring Compressor - $15
New Timing Chain - $34
Intake Manafold Gasket - $20
Timing Gasket - $2
RTV - $5

Total: $718

Pro valve adjust?

What is a Pro valve adjust, and why is it recommended?

I had my valves adjusted by a profesional. I had the shimed and adjusted. I recammend this because this can be screwed up easly and change the way the car runs.

Dammmm! last year I swaped out the hot cam w/306,new lifters,longtubes,58mm trottle body,hydrarev,dynotune..etc and spent at least $3000,yes at least!$3k!, people on this board dont believe me a simple cam swap can cost this much!,to date I'v spent at least $15K in my car w/just bolt ons,and that does not include the original price of the car! I got to be crazy or somthing?

You are obviously paying someone to do all your work, right? $15K in bolt-ons?! If you're doing the work yourself, I hope to god you're including a Twin Turbo kit in your description of "bolt ons".

Except for things that require special tools(rear gears,at least 2 dynotunes etc.)I'v done all the work myself! Its very easy to spend money and watch your I need,I need, I want, I want,budget go thru the roof!,besides were are long tubes,converter,throttlebody various suspension components etc.. in Kuppler's in his sig? got to have those for the whole system to work together!!! enough said!!!!!!

Good point. Money can be spent quick on these motors. Im finding that out quick. The Mustang wasn't quite as bad on the purse as the Camaro is looking to be.

But gotta pay to play right?

Didn't mean to strike a nerve. And, I didn't read your sig before I responded. I see a few $$ hogs in there, namely ported LT4 heads...but I wouldn't call that a bolt on. And, I'm an M6 guy, so I didn't take into consideration the $700+ you A4 guys have to fork over on the stalls.

Anyways, you have a nice string of mods, looks like a strong fun car. Got any track times? Also...how do you like your CC306? I love its sound...does it perform well?

I completely agree. Some ppl don't understand that other expansive come up on these projects. And yes you have to pay to play, but it is all fun!!

Well, its not that I don't understand the expense, believe me I do. At first, $3k sounded awful high for bolt ons...and, well, there's more than bolt ons that he's included in that price...but that's no matter.

I mean...I'm pricing my 355 build right now...that's barking on $4K with just parts and machine work!!

But, as stated...it's all for fun, and we all love what we do.

Did you include tax and shipping in that quote?

I bought a ZZ-409 cam and it came with springs and spring seats recommended by TPIS and that alone was 540$

Federal Mogul roller lifters - 108$
Cloyes timing chain - 85$
Pro Magnum rockers - 270$
ARP 7/16 rocker studs 36$
Guide plates - 25$
Pushrods - 37$
LT4 valve retainers, valve locks, 2 oil filters, oil and various gaskets and seals around 100$ keeping in mind I work for a GM dealer so I can get GM parts cheaper than most people can.

Becasue of the timing chain I had to use and electric waterpump that was 200$

Plus my PCM had to be reprogrammed and that was 100$

So in the end I had roughly 1500$ before tax and shipping, maybe 1700$ when all said and done. I did the work myself however so no labor cost there.

Hallo kuppler

didnt you have the cc 983 valvesprings?

summit recomended them to me also but they didnt fit on the locator, so now im waiting on replay from them on what to do?

in worst case i should have a shop to custommake new locators for me. that will propebly get cheeper than returning them from sweden.

Get the Crane spring kit that I listed above. These come with shims that are used as locators.

oh yeah

And if it makes anyone feel any better, I just dumped $6k in my car too, not counting what I paid for this monster!
