motor fires up with starter fluid but no injector pulse
motor fires up with starter fluid but no injector pulse
So I'm helping my brother with his 1994 firebird LY6 conversion. We're running factory electronics, including the drive by wire.
So everything seems to be wired correctly. The only error codes we are throwing are for emissions related stuff.
For what ever reason, the ecu is not engaging the injectors? There's 12v on the pink wire of course, but no ground from the ecu to engage?
We have disabled the anti-theft crap, but still no activity at the injectors.
Any ideas on what might stop the ecu from firing the injectors?
the ECU is an e38.

what exactly is an ly6 conversion? Might help us who aren't uptodate on codes. At any rate, check fuses first. If you've got spark you can almost rule out distributor, unless its a dual sync setup. Most conversions of any kind require some kind of wire splicing. Im going to guess you've got an open ckt. somewhere for ignition feed. Either a broken wire, something that needed to be relocated to another connector, or something along those lines.
LY6 is the latest 6.0L Vortec truck engine, LSx Gen 4 derived. E38 appears to be the 05-06 truck PCM. Cam position sensor problems would probably prevent injector activation, but the indication is that there are no codes for the cam sensor. Just a wild guess though.
Hmm,....dont the newer pcms use a different # of teeth on the tone wheels for cam/crank than the earlier models?
update: motor starts and runs fine, the obd2 port works fine and the drive by wire pedal works just fine and im able to flash the ECU. Just cant get the analog gauges to work... anyone have any ideas on how to get the e38 to play nice with stock LT1 gauges? Or anyone have experience wiring LS1's to play nice with the stocker LT1 gauges?
also, I notice that the ecu normally communicates with the cluster via a Low speed GMLAN serial data connection... I somehow doubt this is compatible with class 2 serial data (i.e. LS1 style digital clusters).
I'm really trying to get the analog gauges to work, but if anyone has info that could point me down either path that'd be great!
edit: and oh yeah, the LY6 is a Gen 4 LS-based iron block motor with L92 heads (the ones that flow 300+cfm from the factory) and Variable Valve Timing.
