no, you wont need a new axle. but i do recommend you get the TA girdle. they can be found at www.thunderracing.com or summit or jegs most likely.

I did this swap and the only thing you will have to get is a series 3 carrier. You can get one from slp for 100 bucks.

Just so you know, don't expect your 1/4 to get any better by just swapping rear gears

Ditto on most of what was said above. You don't need a girdle though. Its nice to have, but not necessary, especially with an auto. I do totally agree about putting in a 3 series carrier. Get an SLP take-off one.

3.73's seem to be the perfect gear ratio for these cars, but your probably not going to see a huge improvement in track times. They definitely make driving in town more fun though.

3:73s is not the only thing im doing. I just installed a slp cai, and already have eddlebrock hedders and 3"exhaust, and a nice set of 555rs

I would say you should pick up a few tenths from a gear swap because my car came with 2:73's and it ran low 14's I changed to a 3:73 and a K&N cai and went 13:6's. I wish I'd went with 3:42's because now on the spray it goes into OD about a 100ft before the end of the qtr. Oh yeah you can say bye,bye to your mpg.

I agree if you plan on juicing, or other big power adders. Go with 3.42s.

3:73s are nice I have them in 2 of my camaros and they are both automatics they arent bad on the highway and you dont have to get a 3 series carrier you can get 3:73 gears for a 2 series carrier. I am using richmond gears in my cars, a little whine at certain RPMs but not bad at all.

no, i can say with assurance you need a series 3 carrier for 3:73's... if you read you actually need it for anything lower than 3:23

Read again ...as QuicksilverZ28 said, you can get 3.73s for a 2 series carrier. It is a special, thicker gear. They have made special gears like this as long as I can remember.

Hey Shoebox, this is off topic, but did you do the bowties on your black ZR1 caps. I was looking at your site and wondered where you got them. I've got white ZR1s that I'm going to have to paint caps for and was considering decals or ??? for the caps.

Thanks,

TJ
