2010_5thgen 08-11-2009, 08:26 AM so i have been debating on my next mod to do to the car. after putting these wheels on the car, i think i need to do a brake upgrade(at least up front). i was thinking the Brembo 6 piston upgrade up front with larger rotors all the way around. of course having the calipers match the stock rears in color.
Or, a Pro Charger supercharger. it will give me about 550hp to thew wheels with a good tune and the mods i already have done to the car.
So help me out here. do i go for stopping power and a better look with the brake upgrade. or do i go for the power and throw the superfharger on?
2010_5thgen 08-11-2009, 08:30 AM heres a picture of the side of the car to see the open space from the stock brakes

JasonD 08-11-2009, 08:38 AM Oooof...tough one. I would need to see a better shot of the wheels and the rotor to rim gap to decide.
2010_5thgen 08-11-2009, 08:55 AM ill take some pictures when i go to lunch.
2010_5thgen 08-11-2009, 10:46 AM heres the front http://www.camaroz28.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=267&pictureid=1002
2010_5thgen 08-11-2009, 10:47 AM heres the rear http://www.camaroz28.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=267&pictureid=1003
JasonD 08-11-2009, 11:05 AM After seeing those images...if it were ME...I would do bigger brakes.
2010_5thgen 08-11-2009, 11:13 AM thank you for the opinion. please cast your vote in the poll:D
what size are the stock rotors? arent they like 14" front and 13 rears?

Sorry, didn't even catch the poll. Voted!

(EDITED) 14 and 14.4, but may be prelim data and should be verified. Click to enlarge...

2010_5thgen 08-11-2009, 11:39 AM it said 14" front and 14.4 rear. i think the brembo kit is a 15" rotor. ill have to do some more searching.
JasonD 08-11-2009, 11:42 AM I thought that didn't sound right...I read it too fast and I am doing too much at once Good catch.
I don't think .6 - 1 " increase in rotor size will fill those wheels up. I vote for procharger.
2010_5thgen 08-11-2009, 11:55 AM it is a 15" rotor that comes with the gran tourismo kit.
Mikes 1994 z28 08-11-2009, 12:13 PM I said brakes just because you'll need them when you really need them.
2010_5thgen 08-11-2009, 01:22 PM does anyone know if the z06 brakes will fit on the camaro?
JasonD 08-11-2009, 01:39 PM I was thinking about that...you may need some custom fabrication but the wheel diameter size should allow for it.
Would definitely be baaaaaaad asssss.......
2010_5thgen 08-11-2009, 01:53 PM i was looking around and i can get a full set of z06 rotors and calipers (6 & 4 piston), with stainless steel brake lines, for a little under 2 grand. they say that it bolts right up to the c5 and c6 vettes but they have to have a wider wheel. im sure i have plenty of room for it. but i wonder how much modification is involved in the brackets. i hope the "corvette" isnt etched into the caliper. i would have to have it sanded off and repainted.
JasonD 08-11-2009, 02:00 PM For the record, I had Z06 brakes on my 2002 Camaro, and it looked pretty good with the Corvette on the caliper.

2010_5thgen 08-11-2009, 02:09 PM that was from a c5 z06? that probably just bolted right up didnt it? my dad has a c6 vette. maybe ill just check out his brackets on his brakes and see how they differ from mine. if possible, i could just get the brackets along with the calipers to put on the camaro.
JasonD 08-11-2009, 02:16 PM that was from a c5 z06? that probably just bolted right up didnt it?
The calipers? Yes. The rotors? No. In order to use the larger C5 rotors, you had to use special brackets to move them further out. Hotpart.com now makes them (here (http://www.hotpart.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=71)) for those who are new to them and are interested in what they look like.
Now that both the Camaro and Corvette are in new generations, I am not sure how compatible they are. Maybe you can find out for us? :D
2010_5thgen 08-11-2009, 02:18 PM ill look and see. ill try to take some pictures of his compared to mine.
2010_5thgen 08-11-2009, 02:59 PM does anyone know if the g8 gxp has the same brake setup as the ss? i might try asking some guys on a g8 site about the z06 brake upgrade.
2010_5thgen 08-11-2009, 08:29 PM Jason can you add a choice to my poll? can you add Twin Turbos? i found a company and ive really been concidering it. i can cancel my borla headers order and use that money for twin turbos. the company is called APS. they have a installer in columbus about 2 hrs from me. their working on a l99 camaro now and i want them to possibly use my car for the ls3 version. 650+ hp to the wheels???!!!!! NUTS!
JasonD 08-11-2009, 09:15 PM Done.
2010_5thgen 08-11-2009, 11:09 PM thanks jason. you know anything about APS? i looked at their web site and they do some amazing kits. crazy power.
BOSSUPSGENERAL 08-12-2009, 01:26 AM Id have to say both because youll need better brakes when goin that damn fast wit the new procharger throwin yo a$$ out tha hole!! Lol!! Nah but every true driver ive ever met always told me a good car always starts with the brakes & suspension because no matter how fast you can go you still gotta be able to stop tha motha f!@ka !! Lmao!! So my vote goes for the brembo brakes

I do agree about needing to have the braking power to stop a fast car, but the factory Brembo setup on these cars is already a phenominal setup, and should last most of us that street drive the car. The Brembo upgrade kit is more ofr those who race the car, where there will be continuous braking and accelerating on track, not just the stoplight to stoplight, or 1/4 mile quickies.
2010_5thgen 08-12-2009, 07:59 AM well the way i drive, 1/4 mile isnt my type of racing. i never got into frag racing really. and i have always been a firm believer in building up your car from the bottom up. not talking about the motor. start with the wheels, then do suspension then brakes, then power adders. to be able to take the corners and stop yourself doesnt necesarilly mean you need alot of power to throw yourself into those turns. but its not a bad thing.
dugeman 08-12-2009, 08:59 AM PROCHARGER!!!! The car already has decent brakes ,but a Procharger give you an instant 11 second street driven car.
ZYA_LTR 08-12-2009, 09:21 AM You could always compromise, and do the front brake kit, and then just swap in a mild cam/headers/CAI/Tune. Close to procharger power with less strain on the lower end. I had a 98 Z28 with a Procharger, and while it was one helluva ride, i think on my new one, i'm taking the route of the cam/headers/CAI/tune, just for longevity reasons, with the cam coming last, as that is the only one requiring cracking open the engine.
2010_5thgen 08-12-2009, 10:21 AM i thought about the head cma and all that but i dont want to open the motor yet. plus , i love boost!
OutsiderIROC-Z 08-12-2009, 02:45 PM Pro-charger, it has enough brakes, there is never enough power.
wacker 08-13-2009, 11:54 PM New brakes=power train warranty, Pro charger=no warranty:cry: I would prefer more power since the cars brakes are second to only the vet, however taking GM out of the picture is a tough call. Maybe new brakes now and 100,000 miles later add some boost.:)
BOSSUPSGENERAL 08-14-2009, 02:23 AM Have they even made a procharger setup for the camaro yet?

:nuts::lol:
im not too concerned about the warranty. if something goes wrong i can repair it or replace it. at the rate im going now it would take me 30+ years to get 100,000 on the odometer.
2010_5thgen 08-14-2009, 08:19 AM Have they even made a procharger setup for the camaro yet?
yup. msrp 6896 and about 5800 for the tuner kit. adds about 150 hp. but i think im looking for a bit more power than that.
i think ive made up my mind on this situation.
wacker 08-14-2009, 01:30 PM Well I would definitely go with the charger then. An extra 150 would make the Shelby cry:D

the twin turbo kit im going with will give me about 600 to the wheels. im not aiming at shelby or any mustangs with this car. i got bigger stallions and bulls to chase!:D
