Oh God What Did I Do To My Baby?!?!

ONLY when the engine is cold... if i rev it... it makes a disgusting back-fire popping noise on the up and down of the rev... i have stock exhaust with cat and a flowmaster 80 series muffler... did i burn a valve? need sparkplugs?

popping is normal when your car is cold...cold exhaust pipes mixing with warm exhaust air makes the popping noise. oh yeah, quit beating on your car when it's warm, it'll last longer.

Number one you should never be reving a cold engine! The colder an engine is, the richer the mixture the PCM feeds to it. It's not at all unusual to have some "popping" from the exhaust on a cold engine when trying to coax it into doing so. A free flowing exhaust is more likely to do this, however ignition problems and the like may also contribute. You certainly did not burn a valve. If all else seems well and the "popping" isn't unreasonable I wouldn't be too worried. It has never done this before at similar temps?

If your on your 3rd tranny mount my advice would be cut back on the "drive it like you stole it" technique. Be easy on it until its time to put it to the floor. I learned the hard way too.

Broken tranny mounts are a typical problem with these cars. Poly tranny mounts are almost indestructible but do allow more noise into the interior. Many people have had better luck with 1LE mounts, although I believe GM has only one part number now for the mounts. I think these new mounts are similar to the 1LE piece, maybe someone can clarify?

"Popping" is the hallmark for a Flowmaster muffler, especially a cold one. I wouldn't worry. Wait until you a have a big cam and full exhaust to hear what popping really sounds like

we all are gearheads and enjoy the power....but with restraint. most of us don't beat the **** out of our cars, especially trying to set records on highways. not only do you put yourself in danger but you put others at risk.

Many people here are responsible and leave it to the track... others are crazier than you. For the sake of others just use some judgement about when and where you decide to be a bit rambunctous. I'm starting to sound like an old fart

This is quickly becoming lounge material. Lets not start a flame war, this is LT1Tech. Now I'm starting to sound like a mod
