According to the below link Dodge will show a quad cab version of the SRT-10 at the Chicago auto show in Feb. and there are rumors of a 600HP Hemi V10

Sixer-Bird 01-16-2003, 08:39 PM Good lord!
bigsteve7 01-16-2003, 09:34 PM Thats cool and all, but along with every other high hp vehicle theyre making these days none of us will be able to afford it. :(
Burmite 01-16-2003, 10:52 PM 600+ hp HEMI V-10? Is that even necessary???
I see that as more of a Viper super engine than anything else...
Pfft.. I'm one to think that the 600HP 8.1L figures will be either 1) ridiculously unaffordable, like $75,000 range, or 2) significantly watered down if that thing ever comes into production.
That 18-wheeler front end look never grew on me. I hate it now as much as when I first saw it. Nice mechanical stats though.
RiceEating5.0 01-18-2003, 01:41 AM Cool, but i see it as a waste. That "truck" doesn't really need 600hp. One thing though, does that mean that the viper will get the same motor too?
What Dodge really needs to build is a 380-400hp Hemi based v8 Charger and price it at about the 25-30k mark.
Mikes25thAnnTA 01-18-2003, 11:16 AM 600HP V10 Hemi?
oh yeah???
How about a 1050HP 16cyl in the new Caddy??? :metal:
Bring it Dodge! :Owned:
lol

And of course your Stand NEEDS a 5.0, your bolt-ons, and the "laughing gas"?
The idea behind it would be to give you something you, in fact, DON'T need.
Mikes25thAnnTA 01-18-2003, 11:21 AM err, Stang
Chuck! 01-18-2003, 12:03 PM This just in,
General Motors decides to counter Dodge's agressive 600 hp SRT-10 with a 170 HP Silverado SS penta-cab.
"We're extremely excited about bring back the 305 tbi engine and coupling it with this new revolutionary 5-door extended cab truck." Said Bob Lutz.
The pentacab design is derived from the windsheild now acting like a door, making the ability to flick off the Lighting or SRT-10 that just beat you even easier.
"We feel by letting the customer extend their middle finger not only up to the windshield, but though the windsheild they'll be able to acheive maximum 'I just got my ass kicked' effect" Lutz added.
Also standard on the Silverado SS pentacab are revolutionary 34" rims and a extended 19 foot bed.
"This is exactly where we want to start out in the sport truck market. We definitely have some plans to build on this. We're looking at adding 2 more wheels, creating the first hexa-turn system. The public has been expressing enthusiasm over this sort of vehicle for a while now, and I feel its time GM delivered something that really gets back to the Super Sport roots" Lutz ended with.

No it doesn't NEED it but i opted for them because i wasn't really satisfied with the stock #'s. There's a difference between a modified 300-320rwhp 5.0 and a stock 600hp Truck. I don't need a 600hp mustang. I'd like to have it but i don't NEED it. If ford was offering a 600hp mustang, cool but the price tag will definitely be out of my range. Same with this truck, it's cool but i don't really care for it.
Anyways, you're missing my drift. It's going to be a mega bucks 600hp limited production "truck" that going to probably weigh close to 5,000lbs. I'd like to see them put half that effort into a much smaller and affordable sports offering like the Charger and mass produce it. I bet you'd welcome the Idea of a 600hp Chevy SS truck and "NO" f-bod right? i personally see performance coupes and cars as more of a priority then sport trucks.
RiceEating5.0 01-18-2003, 12:41 PM Chuck!:D :metal:. Funny stuff.
Ken S 01-18-2003, 01:01 PM Cool... but something is wrong when you have a truck thats faster than anything else in your normal lineup..

actually the truck does need 600HP because it weighs more, if it was a car it would only need 400HP.

It wouldn't need that 600hp if it weren't trying to perform like something it initially wasn't meant to be (sports car). You bring up the issue of weight, and that's why i said it was a waste. Why not just make a lighter and cheaper 400hp car and have it pull the same performance #'s? Does Dodge really need a 50+ thousand dollar 600hp truck? or that 6 figure 500hp bike with a topspeed of over 300+hp? I just think all that performance could have been better invested in other models. Don't get me wrong, the truck is pimp, but i feel as if it's overkill. Can you imagine the gas mileage on that thing? and we thought that the much lighter Viper's was bad.
I don't hate performance trucks, I actually liked the Lightning even though i wouldn't buy one. The difference was that the lightning was somewhat affordable. But the fact that it was faster then the GT and almost just as fast as the Cobra didn't sit well with me. There's something wrong when your performance truck is just as fast as you fastest performance car. I'd like to see GM/Ford/Dodge get as just serious about their performance cars as their performance trucks. And i'm not talking about the big buck Z06, Viper, or GT/40 either. I'm talking f-bod, mustang, and a possible Charger.
Rant mode off:D. Tis just my opinion.
Chuck! 01-18-2003, 03:41 PM I absolutly LOVE sport trucks, which is why my rant up there was so bitter. My favorite GM car of all time isnt even a car, its a truck, the Typhoon. Its by far the coolest thing GM has ever made, but unfortunally I'd feel bad (honestly) if I moded one because they only made 2,000 of them and over the years I've picked up what my dad belives in, you dont mod a classic. Thats why I want GM to produce a sport truck thats worth buying, ie the regular cab Silverado SS. When I look at pictures of it it does more for me than any Corvette, any Camaro, any Firebird, I dont know why, I just love that concept and GM disappoints with a bastardized full sized piece of nothing.
/rant mode.
Pandamonkey 01-18-2003, 06:45 PM Damn Chuck, that stuff about the new GM truck has me laughing still even as I write this.:D :D

I agree with you about the price , we don't need a $50K truck.
Why can't someone just put a 500HP+ engine in a POS work truck and sell it for like $23K. I'm talking vinyl seats, AM/FM, roll up windows, steel rims. it's all this hightech lux stuff that drives the price up on these trucks.
Oh.. and just because you don't need a 600HP truck what makes you think I don't :D :D :D

guionM 01-19-2003, 02:05 AM Is it just me, or is a 600 hp pickup truck just a bit over the top.

You aren't alone.
And i thought 500hp was pushing it.
The totally-stripped-on-options-base-truck-with-hi-perf-motor idea is largely along the lines of where that shortbed black Silverado SS was meant to exemplify. Any word on if that thing has a chance of production? Strip it down to absolutely bare essentials, throw in a huge Vortec, give it a few amenity-type options, keep it under $30K and I think they could probably sell 100K+ of those things a year blindfolded. Everyone loved those photos.
As far as 500HP here, 600HP there, etc. .. Seems to me that competition and HP ratings (at least in concepts if not in production) have been rising dramatically during the last 5 - 6 years. Are we heading into something like the tech stock bubble of 1999 where things come crashing down soon after we peak? With this imminent was on Iraq and massive protests everywhere are we heading into some new oil crisis that will kill off all these high performance engines in a few years? Don't underestimate the hybrid/electric threat either which will be a major pressure in another 10 years. I'm just scared about HP ratings going through the friggin roof lately. Ratings will NOT continue to increase exponentially as they are doing right now. Ls1 350 .. LS6 385 .. 405 .. 450 .. GenIV 500+ .. things WILL plateau off very soon. I'm just not sure how or when
