Coggin Chevy: $13k over MSRP
Coggin Chevy: $13k over MSRP
I have a friend that is a salesman at Coggin Chevy here in jacksonville. He said they have sold about 5 2010 Camaros already, and they just got in two 2SS 6 speeds and they are selling for $50,000. I told him I would just turn around and leave if I were trying to buy one.
He said that people are lining up left and right to buy this thing, and they are paying that $50k price tag. That's whats making it so hard for all of us who won't pay mark ups!

I would never even walk on the lot of one of these thieves. Searching Cars.com there are about 1500 Camaros avail nationwide. Looking at the list many are for sale at MSRP. Within a few months they will all be at MSRP or less. I doubt that many of these cars are selling above MSRP. There seems to be a lot of dealers who are asking for a lot but only a fool would pay over MSRP that is being produced at 80 - 100k units per year.
That's where the "few months" comes from. The biggest issue is the car can be had for MSRP today at many, many dealerships. It is not limited production and will be around for several years so why bother dealing or even looking at a dealer that is trying to extort you when you can, generally, for the cost of a tank of fuel buy from a dealer who is not a butt head?

Cheryl Pilchner gave that as an initial annual target with the hopes of 130,000 in year two. This was in an interview back in January. If you look at their current production rate they are at about 7,000 a month.
my fear is that in a year this will be a bad dream and the discounting will start...But dont be dissuaded...if you want a Camaro there are dealers that will sell at a reasonable price...look around...order early and choose what you want....trust me the car is worth it...

The most recent production targets I've seen are in the 50-60k/year range.
That's still more than enough to make paying over MSRP a ridiculous proposition.
After the all the hoopla dies down, and all the enthusiasts get their cars, we'll see just how many cars GM will be able to produce.
If you do some simple math based on last months production and project out looking at the 24k Camaros already produced you will see more than 75k Camaro's by the end of the year is very likely. Of course something can always happen to throw a wrench in the works but since the judge approved the "new GM" and the government is providing the funding it seems highly unlikely that GM will go away and unless you think GM is going to shut down production of the hottest selling car in the country then you have to expect that we will have plenty of supply pretty soon.
Where are you getting the 24k number? Just last week, I heard that they had ~25k orders, and were not even halfway done building the cars to fill those orders.
