Well here I sit again, stranded for the umpteenth time by my security light. I've battled this thing for over 2 years now, and after endless reading on resistors, lock cylinders, etc. have finally considered my case to be unique.
After the issue first began popping up I reverted to using my remote start (Which was on the car when I acquired) to fire the car up, every time. However, for some reason on randomly and especially on unusually hot days (like today) the prevalence of the security light is heightened. I pulled the cover off under the steering wheel to tackle it last summer and stood in awe as the white/purple wired resistor plug fell into my hands. It was already cut out /w a resistor built in! (I'm assuming this is required for remote start on VATS vehicles, right?).
But if I have a resistor wired in for the remote start, why would I still get a security light at all? Especially when I'm remote starting (not even touching the ignition other than turning the key into "on" every time I start) Is there some way that the ohm rating in the resistor somehow fluctuates with outside temperature, humidity, etc. and makes it not match the reading to start sporadically? Worth noting is the fact that when security comes on, it usually takes several tries, its never one-and-done. In fact I've had to get the car towed before because of this.
