Pundits Wrong about GM

Please consider the article below that responds to recent columns by pundits critical of Rick Wagoner, the GM bankruptcy, and the government bailout.

A great read and certainly puts things into perspective, if everything stated is accurate.

Well, I disagree. I think if GM was being responsible, they would have had a bankruptcy plan ready to go in December 2008. Their unwillingness to go that route extended this whole process by at least two extra months.

The author claims that the final restructuring plan was close to Wagoner’s, which is somewhat true, but it was actually nearly identical to what Sen. Corker proposed last year.

I am not the author. I'm not smart enough to write something like that.

It doesn't mean I necessarily agree with the article even if I viewed the article as enlightening reading (particularly the part about the RN alliance).

1. The Fiat deal was a total fiasco...

2. Rick Wagoner had a chance to be a real hero but if he was answerable to the GM shareholders then he wasn't doing his job properly IMHO. He should have done what was best for GM, the company. A radical shape-up was needed but he decided that "slow 'n' steady" was the best approach for an ailing company with unsustainable structural costs.

As for the rest of the article... I can understand the points discussed wrt GM's position.
