Looks like every LNF car is being canceled http://jalopnik.com/5246047/gm-axes-every-high+performance-trim-level-except-important-ones Add the 2010 Solstice to that list too.
Will GM give these fantastic motors a new home? My vote is for the Malibu. I'd love to see a Malibu Sport with 18" wheels, 6 speed auto, and the 260HP Turbo 2.0L LNF. Buick Regal would be a good fit for that engine too, but that car is a year+ away, same goes for the Cruze.

HuJass 05-09-2009, 10:33 PM I don't think we're going to see any performance cars from GM in a long while.
They've pretty much killed off all their performace cars.
The only ones left are the Camaro SS, Corvette Z06 & ZR1, and CTS-V.
Where would they put the LNF? Certainly not in a regular non-performance sedan. No, I bet the motor is done.
Glad I got my Solstice GXP.
CLEAN 05-09-2009, 10:42 PM It's like 1972 or so all over again

flowmotion 05-10-2009, 02:53 AM Agreed with the OP. Ford is putting turbos into their mainstream lineup, hopefully GM will respond. The technology is sitting there on the shelf, put it in a sedan.
TOO Z MAXX 05-10-2009, 03:19 AM GM is blowing it. First the 1/2 ton diesel and now this.

Regarding the thread title-Actually if you read the source article (http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2009/05/gm-kills-highperformance-trims-for-2010.html)that the blog post is based on, you'll see that the LNF still has several homes for 2010. 2011? We'll see.
Chevy takes the hardest hit, losing a number of its SS models, with the Impala SS, HHR SS Panel and Cobalt SS sedan cut for the 2010 model year. The Cobalt SS coupe will be cut later, at the end of calendar year 2009 or early 2010.The HHR SS will continue throughout the entire 2010 model year, ending in June 2010.
Now for a little perspective. The Cruze is slated for production in April of 2010. In other words 4 or so months after the Cobalt SS goes out of production according to the time table in the article. I'd expect the Cobalt to be relegated to fleet only status once the Cruze is on line. Will the Cruze get the LNF? Something beter? Who knows. As for the HHR Panel SS, I'd be surprised if they sold a thousand of them total over 3 model years. I can't see how there was ever a business case for that. It was a throw in that you can afford in good times. 2007 was not good times for GM. And the current times...
No, I bet the motor is done.
Glad I got my Solstice GXP.
As you know, the LNF gets much better fuel economy in the Kappas than the base 2.4L even while having almost 90 more horsepower. I don't now why that would be any different in any other platform.
We know that GM's (and the industry at large) use of both direct injection and turbocharging is increasing, not decreasing. I've no doubt the LNF(or a spiritual succesor) will be around for a long time.
As we all knowt he LT1 was a great engine... until the lighter more powerful, more efficient, more refined LS1 arrived.

Me too. 6 speed manual would be ok as well. Have it factory flashed to 290 hp, and have some fun.

What's an LNF?

The 2.0 Turbo engine used in the Cobalt SS and HHR SS, Solstice GXP and Sky Redline.

What's an LNF?direct injected 2.0l turbo used in the cobalt/hhr ss's, saturn sky redline and the solstice gxp.

What's an LNF?
The LNF is a direct injected gasoline 2.0 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder gasoline engine from the Ecotec engine family produced by General Motors. It can be found in the HHR-SS, Cobalt SS, Solstice GXP, Sky Redline. It puts out 260HP while getting the same mileage as a 173HP 2.4L 4cyl
I just wanted to cover everything in one post so the thread didn't go on for 10 pages with people adding more each post.

You left out that it puts out 260HP while getting the same mileage as a 173HP 2.4L 4cyl.

There's good reason why the performance cars Jalopnik mentions are being killed.
The STSv is being killed because the STS is being killed.
The G6 GXP is being killed because Pontiac (along with the G6) is being killed.
Cobalt SS is being killed because the Cobalt is being replaced with the Cruize. Cobalt will continue briefly as a fleet car... no need for a turbo version.
The Solstice and Sky are heading to the end of thier lives by the end of this year, taking the LNF versions of those cars with it.
The Mexican made HHR's assembly line will be used to produce something else soon, so the HHR is likely to be killed off... again, taking the LNF engine with it.
All said, although the current cars the LNF is used in here in North America will be dead or replaced, the LNF itself isn't exactly at a dead end.
Like the LS1 to LS2 to LS3 engines, small changes designate a new engine code. Opel will still use essentially the same engine on at least 2 car lines. The LNF's successor/derivitive is also scheduled as part of the engine lineup in the upcoming Chevrolet Cruize.
I'd also wager that a successor would be part of the Alpha lineup as well.

Not anymore I didn't.
LeadSled1 05-12-2009, 07:49 AM Actually, the LNF gets much better gas mileage than the 2.4.
