Our Pedders eXtreme Xa Coil Overs have been race proven in a multitude of platforms. In Fact, they just won a major award for one of the best aftermarket accessaries in Au. We have several hundred already in the states on the GTO, G8, and Subaru.
So what are the Pedders eXtreme Xa coil overs and how are they different from the majority of the coil overs out there?
Here is an explanation of the Pedders eXtreme XA Coil over:
1. Mono Tube design
2. 30 Way detented adjustable damping
3. Separate coil trapping adjustment.
4. Height adjustment done by not playing with coil spring rates and height
So lets review them with more detail.
1. 30 way detented damper adjustability. Some struts out there there have a dial that you put a certain position for damping levels. Without having them detented, you are only guessing at the rates. When you have 30 specific locations or adjustments you can ALWAYS repeat any settings as long as you can count. When you are in the 15 and above clicks, you should be able to tell the difference between each click. Here are some general areas for detent adjustments:
a. 2-5 clicks will give you OE damper performance
b. 12-15 clicks will give you a general street/canyon run performance level settings
c. 21-25 clicks are all out race race levels and too firm for normal street.
d. 30 clicks you are popping or making hemorrhoids!
Adjusting the struts is as simple as turning a dial and counting
2. You will have some serious height adjustability, and to be honest, more height adjustability than the Camaro can handle to maintain proper geometry. Now normal adjustable struts you lower or raist the lower spring seat to raise/lower the vehicle. But this increases spring biases. So with our Pedders Xa coil overs, we preset the coil preloads and then leave them alone. Then to adjust height, you will screw in the strut in/out of the of the lower knuckle bracket. This allows you to change heights and still keep normal spring travel. This is a big deal!! It allows you to have more of an accurate corner weight balance. Height adjustments will be from the -.5inches to a very low 1.5 inches. We will have a selection of coil rates for you and am not sure yet what the sport coils will be for the Camaro. But the G8 is at 7 to 8 kg/mm front and 10kg/mm rear. conversion factors have errors in them but to give you an approximate rating you might understand, 1kg/mm will equal 55.88 lb/in
Now what does all this mean? Instead of going into a lot of explanation, lets talk about results.
We just recently did a major track verification day in New Jersey, using professional drivers. We tested 3 TrackII Xa coil over systems with 3 different types of tires on a skid pad test. They pulled a 1.01g with split configured tires, 1.03g's with Michelin PS2's, and a 1.05g with Forgeline 19x9.5 ZX3 Wheels Bridgestone Potenza REO50A Pole Position 275/35/19 XL W. As a reference, a stock G8 GT with 19s turned a .93g. The magazines rated the Camaro with 20 inch tires at .93g with FE2 and .90g for FE3. Yes, the V6 will out-handle the SS,. Now a Ferrari Enzo is at 1.01g at $250,000 plus.
Even a HHR with Xas turned a .97g!
So how did it actually perform on the Track? In a 10 lap event. Pete's G8 was almost 30 seconds faster than a Z06 and a Porsche GT, both with Track Tires. Now Pete's G8 is running a Pro Charger, and the suspension was was set up for a road coarse.
So where are we at with the Camaro? This week the Camaro Xa Beta struts were air shipped to us. They are currently going thru customs. We already have a special Camaro set up to install. More on this Camaro later.
So we are in great shape. Camaros are in transit to the dealerships right now. We have all the bushings already in stock, and will have sway bars and strut tower brace very soon.
More info on the Xas can be seen on our website at:
http://www.peddersusa.com/products/6
Now what is the best way to get Xa"s. Buy them with a system. We will have multiple systems very soon:
Street Xa
eXtreme Xa package
Street Xa Plus package which will include sway bars.
Buying a system will give you some fantastic discounts over buying parts individually.

So here are some preliminary systems for you to look at. We will probably have a Street Xa Plus system that will include our sway bar kit. This has not been done yet. the pricing levels should be determined and accurate by the end of the month.
Now to give you some idea of the outcome of the eXtreme Track System, lets look at the 3 G8s with this system on it that we just checked in New Jersey. Now a stock G8 GT with 19 inch OE performance tires, turned a .93g on a skid pad. The 3 G8s with this system turned a 1.01g, 1.03g, and a 1.05g. The variations in the 3 has to do mostly with tire and wheel configurations, and alignment. As a reference, a Ferrari Enzo has a skid pad rating of 1.01g.
Now that there are a bunch of Camaros in transit to the dealers, we will have specific data hopefully on Camaro in 45-60 days.
thanks

JasonD 04-07-2009, 08:00 PM Awesome info! Just made a blog entry about it...
Pedders eXtreme Xa Coil Overs Will Find a Home on My 2010 Camaro (http://www.phantomss.com/2010-camaro-ss/pedders-extreme-xa-coil-overs-on-my-2010-camaro/)
Now I know this is a G8 and slightly different. But the before/after shots will be fairly comparatve to the Camaro
I just finished a Xa Street System on a G8 at Abel Chevrolet Pontiac Buick in Suisun, Ca. Its a new G8, the same color as Petes, with 19s. The owner wanted a slight old school rake and the fronts to have the fenders nearly equal to the tires. This is exactly what we did.
Originally the heights were at 652-655 front, and 650-653 rears. After installing the Xas, we set the fronts to 600mm and the rears to 610mm. The front dampers at 16clicks and the rears at 12 clicks. This is a moderately aggressive setup.
Here are the before and after pictures:
BEFORE AT 652-655 FRONT AND 650-653 REAR
http://forums.peddersusa.com/imagehosting/749dd79fee4488.jpg
After WITH XA'S AT 600 FRONT AND 610 REAR
http://forums.peddersusa.com/imagehosting/749dd7a00761d5.jpg
Now we have done a very serious amount of testing, and corner balancing of Pete's G8
http://forums.peddersusa.com/imagehosting/849be773e69134.jpg
Now Pete's G8 s corner balanced. Production vehicles with limited option lists are very consistent in weight distribution. Using the locking collar measurements as presets for your Xa coilover installation will get you close to a corner weighted vehicle. While the car would not be coner weighted, you starting point for corner weighting will be pretty darn close.
RF 33mm / FR 610mm
LF 29.7mm / FL 610mm
RR 30.5mm / RR 595
LR 38mm / LR 593
Now Pete and have have different goals in mind. Pete;s G8 is all about performance and it does exactly what what he wants. Me personally I do no like the back end look. but to get the G8 balanced correctly, it needs to be 15mm lower in the rear. ( GTOs and LXs are the same). But as long as the customer is not racing, I like the old school slight rake, and the stance of the G8 at 600 front and 610 rear.
Your thoughts.

Camaro Xa Kit #1 is in the building!!!
We have to validate the fitment from pre-production to production Camaro. As soon as we get our hands on a production version and verify there have been no changes we will turn on the production in volume. Anyone have a PRODUCTION 2010 Camaro in the Michigan area they are willing to let me play with for a day?

Justice Pete 04-29-2009, 07:58 PM We completed a successful fit of our Xa coilovers to the Camaro Black at the Milford Proving Grounds on Monday. Woo Hoo they fit!!!!
The coilovers are good to go. We need to make revisions to our sways. The T2 Front and rear Coils are also good to go. In short, it was a GREAT DAY at Milford. I wish I could tell you more about what I saw while I was there. GM has financial woes, but they are still doing amazing work at the Milford Proving Grounds with some of the most dedicated car guys in the world!
The short answer is about eight weeks.
2010_5thgen 05-12-2009, 01:22 PM eight weeks until we get the xa kit?
Justice Pete 05-12-2009, 01:42 PM eight weeks until we get the xa kit?
7.5 weeks :D
We did the final fit at Milford about two weeks ago and that is when we released the units for production. They fit perfectly, as expected, on the Camaro Black. Dale Jr's and the Red SS will be on our Xa Coilovers shortly. I'll be back at Milford this Thursday to do some follow up work.
2010_5thgen 05-12-2009, 02:36 PM if you dont mind me asking , why did you put the xa kit on the sema cars when they are basically just show cars?
Justice Pete 05-12-2009, 04:06 PM if you dont mind me asking , why did you put the xa kit on the sema cars when they are basically just show cars?Because GM wanted them!
http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:piAQBjVS-Z576M:http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/image
For show cars, the coilover is a perfect solution. No matter what height coil the manufacturing produces based on the design request it will be wrong for the designer. With a height adjustable coilover the Show Car can be set to the exact height the designer requests -- no matter how often they change their minds.
Aside from that, there were some fitment issues with the coils they were using. That is no surprise for one off special request product. That is absolutely no reflection on the companies that made the coils. We are very pleased to have been asked to contribute to the Camaro project.
the real reason is Pete and me wanted to go to Milford and see what they got. LOL.
We accomplished 2 things: helped GM out of a jam. this opened up soe very big doors for us. More on that later. But it did give us a chance test the fitment. which was critical and worth the efforts for sure

2010_5thgen 06-08-2009, 01:37 PM do we have an updated ETA on the XA kit?
Justice Pete 06-08-2009, 04:54 PM We are slow on delivery, because of the late release of the Camaro by GM. We held up production until we could get under a couple of production vehicles to validate our fitment and our high profile installations with a couple of Dealers and GM at the Proving Grounds were great opportunities for this. The Xa coilovers fit perfectly, are produced and waiting for the boat to arrive in port.
Radius rod bushes are good to go.
Differential bushes are good to go.
Sway Bars are being revised for clearance.
Endlinks are good to go.
Sub-Frame Inserts are being revised
Trailing Arm Bushes are good to go.
Upper Control Arm Bushes are good to go.
We expect to have stock for all these bits when the first Pre-Order of Xa coilovers arrive. I think this summary covers most of your questions. Now I will make it even harder to wait. We have air freighted at considerable expense a handful of Xa coilovers for magazine cars with Nickey, Hennessy and Fesler Moss. With the Nickey car we did the fitment of the Xa coilovers, eXtreme Radius Rod Snubbers, eXtreme Rear Camber and Toe Adjusters and a Pedders alignment at the Autobahn Country Club (http://www.autobahncountryclub.net/)in Joliet Illinois with TEAM Stradale (http://teamstradale.com/nickey.html). Our first test was to establish the base line performance with stock tires, wheels, suspension and alignment. The head of the Autobahn Track Driving School Francesco Abate was our designated driver. Typically he is driving track prepared BMWs and Ferrari's. Last Thursday it was a Camaro SS. his initial drive was solid, but a bit uncertain. There is substantial lean and roll and a significant amount of understeer resulting in solid lap times.
We brought the Camaro into the shop and installed the VERY first 2010 Camaro Radius Rod Snubbers originally developed for GM High Performance. Unfortunately that project was been dropped, but we still have the parts so the Nickey Camaro was a logical place to test them. They take up space and remove compliance making the radius rod bush eXtremely stable. This part is one of the very few bits Pedders makes that will be sold for Track Use Only.
Installing the Xa Coilovers alters the spring rates with 8Kg coils up front and 10Kg coils in the rear. Damping set to full soft starts where the OEM dampers end. We tested at 25 or 5 off full hard upfront and 15 or in the middle in the rear. This was done to minimise the push created by vehicle balance and a staggered set of OEM tires. The alignment is the same as the one we use on my four door Camaro / Pontiac G8.
Front
Camber -2.2
Castor -- it is fixed from the factory on the Camaro -- well at least until Pedders releases front Castor eXtreme Adjuster Bolts and Washers.
Toe -.25
Rear
Camber -1.1
Toe 0.03/0.02
Thrust Angle 0
We lowered the Camaro SS quite a bit. I am waiting on some data from Francesco, but from memory we dropped the front 30mm and the rear 40mm. The transformation on the vehicle was incredible. Our first lap, Francesco was uncomfortable. The car just didn't feel right. Then we noticed that the Traction Control had not been turned off. While still running at speed, I turned off the traction control. The car felt more than alright. It felt fast. It still had too much push which can be further reduced by lowering the rear. That was my fault. Being a Nickey car, it should look like Nickey Camaro with the traditional Muscle Car stance so I left it a bit too tall. We need to bring the rear of the vehicle down another 15mm. Moving to 10.x20 rims all around with something like 295/35/20/XL or 305/30/20/XL should balance out the car with more grip up front and be balanced front to rear, but I digress.
The Nickey Camaro with Pedders Radius Rob Snubbers, Xa coilovers and a Pedders Alignment was a blistering 2.41 seconds per lap faster on our worst Pedderised lap. We feel that with ONLY suspension upgrades to include sub-frame bush inserts, upper rear control arm bushes, trailing arm bushes, bars and endlinks we have another 1.5 seconds. That would mean you can take a Camaro SS and find 4 bullet proof reliable seconds with nothing more than a few suspension upgrades. There is no motor upgrade that could deliver this improvement, because we were at the limits of the OEM suspension with OEM RWHP. Adding HP would do nothing for lap times.
As for Francesco, he is now an American Muscle Car addict. As we continue to work with Nickey Chicago at the Autobahn with Francesco we will continue to update this thread. Our next session should take place in about a month when we finish the suspension with our revised bits. Following that, will be a matched set of tires and wheels. Following that will be more RWHP. As time allows, we will be working with Hennessy and Fesler Moss on similar projects that will all receive national media attention.
Orders and retail sales of our Xa coilovers have been staggering. I never expected to sell coilovers in this volume for the Camaro, GTO, G8 and other platforms. Volume is good. Because we are running production at this level we are LOWERING the retail price for our coilovers across the board. They will not be as low as the December Dollar Days, but they will be going down based on volume. I can't thank the online communities that are the driving force behind these orders enough. We haven't had delivery on the first pre-order and we have already sold out the second order and while neither the first of second orders have shipped, we are on our third order with a production schedule that is eXtremely different than it looked 60 days ago.
Aside from that, I don't have much new information to share with you. ;)
What a great parking place. These are the rides that normally would be found in the Stradle Stable.

Backstreet is one of our finest Dealers. I have Backstreet setup my alignment for track days because are very very good. When you install your Xa coilovers a complete alignment is in order. In fact, we have developed a set of rear camber and toe eXtreme Adjustment Bolts and Washers to get your Camaro exactly where it should be for street, drag strip, autocross of road course or road course use. They should be ready to ship[ some time next week. Here is a sneak peek at the ZETA Rear eXtreme Camber and Toe Kit.

The OEM adjuster provides less than a degree of adjustment. Pedders eXtreme Camber and Toe Kist provides more than 2 degrees of adjustment range. We also go one step further and provide jam nuts to lock down the alignement bolts.
2010_5thgen 06-09-2009, 12:18 PM very cool. i can not wait to see how much better this car is going to handle. i love it now, im going to be IN love with it after i get my goodies on it.
Justice Pete 06-09-2009, 02:56 PM very cool. i can not wait to see how much better this car is going to handle. i love it now, I'm going to be IN love with it after i get my goodies on it.You cannot even begin to imagine what a great car you own. I have professional race car drivers telling me my ZETA G8 is easier to drive fast than their race cars. I have my speed warning set to 80, 90, 100 and 110 becuase I just seem to drift by these marks. 140 feels like 80 and that will get you in trouble fast.
I made a modification to my exhaust using a 24" chambered muffler to replace the OEM resonators. As many of you know, drone in the AFM vehicle is an ideosincracy of the exhaust. The chambered mufflers have my G8 with NO drone and quieter than OE. It is as quiet as a Buick going down the road. So quiet that I notice wind noises that were imperceptible with the OEM exhaust. Combine dead quiet with stability and predictability and speed limits seem more like slow motion devices. It is really hard to stay at legal speeds without using cruise control. There is just no sense of speed.
Now when I want to disturb my neighbors, I press my Quick Time Performance button and run off the 24" chambered exhaust. There is a significant gain in RWHP and the exhaust note is pure American Muscle. I liked it so much, my GTO now has a QTP cut out. Take a wild guess what my Camaro will have?
z71collector 06-09-2009, 03:28 PM so we still have a few weeks before the kits will be ready to ship out? hey pete, when these kits are installed, does the camber get messed up on the car? im having backstreet motors do my install here in ohio. will they be able to take care of the camber with this if there is alot? i just dont want to have it so bad that its ruining the tires after a few thousand miles. also, i had my deposit put down last year for the special pricing, will someone call me to paythe rest of the balance or will they just charge the credit card i used for the down payment?
Too funny. You stole my tech question about a camber adjustment and if so are the shims going to be available?
That is a negative camber adjust correct?

ive noticed that doing 80 really feels like im doing 40. its bad. hopefully the tighter suspension will give me more of a sense of the speed.

Our tag line is No Bull so here it is with No Bull. Your Camaro will feel slower at higher speeds because it will become so much more stable and predictable. Running at 160 MPH should be thrilling, it feels like 55 MPH. I am ashamed to say my wife has poked me for coming off an expressway ramp at well over 100 MPH entering the road with my kids in the car. She is absolutely right and I should not be traveling that fast any time but especially with the kids on board. So help me it just doesn't feel fast at all. The car is no where near the edge.
That is the downside to a Pedderised ZETA. It makes you feel indestructible which is not the case. If anything breaks at these high rates of speed, if an animal wanders onto the road bad things can happen really fast. I try hard to be responsible and confine my triple digit driving to track days. I am old enough to know better or maybe I am just older.
2010_5thgen 06-10-2009, 07:56 AM sometimes driving fast isnt bad, as long as your a good driver. i think someone can go 100mph and still be totally in control and aware of their surroundings. especially if the car is done right and can handle the situations, i dont see anything wrong with it.
Nickey Chicago 06-11-2009, 11:51 AM We should all drive responsibly, and within the boundaries of the law, even though that may be difficult to do at times.
I can however; confirm that 100mph does feel like 50 or 60mph in the Nickey Super Camaro project car with the Pedders Suspension Kit and setup.
2010_5thgen 06-11-2009, 01:37 PM speed limits are just a recommendation. :)
Pete told me in Michigan, you take the first 2 numbers of your triple digit speeds, add them together, then ut that number in front of the 0. I.E, 145 means 55mph. He siad they do things differently in Michigan like a Michigan left turn. LOL

By extension, wouldn't that mean that 210mph = 120mph (which both = 30mph)?

2010_5thgen 07-20-2009, 02:59 PM so how much longer are we looking at until these kits hit the shore?

2010_5thgen 07-23-2009, 07:55 AM no, but seriously. how much longer are we looking at? im sure everyone is really busy but i put money down a long time ago and its taking 6 weeks for a boat to go from Australia to the US?

Boats are pretty slow. From Australia, we're talking more than 10,000 miles. Six weeks isn't unreasonable. I would hope it won't be much longer, though. :)
2010_5thgen 07-23-2009, 08:36 AM well its probably the cheapest route of transportation but its for sure not the quickest. this is the longest 6 weeks of my life.
We have an alternative for those who do not want to wait for the boat. We can have them air shipped that can still take 7 days, but the cost is around $350.

2010_5thgen 07-23-2009, 11:06 AM they told me that was an option. ive already waited the 5 weeks since they told me 6 weeks. im just wondering if they have a more definate date yet.
