Newb Question: Are the Big 3 in trouble worldwide?

Excuse my newbness. I understand that the big 3 are in sad shape, due to the gas crunch, and percieved superiority of imports here in the US. BUT.... Are GM and friends on the verge of bankruptcy worldwide?

It seems as though opel has stellar cars in europe, buick is dominating china, sports cars are selling well in dubai(not at enough volume to hold up the company)

Is the US really the #1 arena for world car sales? Could Gm survive if they concentrated solely on international sales?

I read a thread on here not too long ago that said something about GM having booming sales in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
