Traction Control Q's

Ok, so my friend and I both recently bought new (or close) WS6's. We both previously had V6's, and aren't too enlightened on the whole traction control thing. I thought there was a switch somewhere on the car for it, but neither of us have one. I would assume my car would have it, as it's fully loaded other then that. On a '98 Z28 I test drove it had an ASR button, wtf is that? On T/A's, do they have traction control on all the time without the ability to disable it or something? Is there a RPO code I can find on my door to check this? Is traction control good or bad? lol...... personally I don't think I'd want it. But yeah, I just want to figure it out.

The ASR button you speak of is the traction control switch. I believe that on TA's it's located somewhere close to the shifter. If you're car is fully loaded you most likely do have traction control and you can turn it off by pressing the button I mentioned earlier. When you do this the dash should display "ASR off". Traction control does come in handy in situations when the road is slick or slippery. I leave it on all the time except for when I race. You'll know when it's working when you try to give the car gas and the gas pedal is trying to push you're foot back. If the traction control is really bothering you then SLP sells a part which disables traction control automatically when you first start the car, requiring you to turn it on yourself if you want it on. Hope this helps.

Traction control was only an option. If you can't find a switch anywhere, chances are you don't have it (who needs it ).

Another way to find out would be to go out to your car, pull into the street and stomp it. If you leave some nice tire marks, then you don't have traction control.

exactly! I have a 98 t/a with TCS (BTW ASR is only on camaros automatic slip regulation) thats what chevy calls traction control. If you drive a bird you have TCS: traction control system. TCS or ASR is disabable, if you have no button you have no traction control. On the firebird it's located right on top of the plate that shows you the shift lay out, right next to the lighter. When u depress it TCS OFF lights on the dash on the left hand side, and hold on and buckle up cuz you going sideways in a heartbeat

I drive with it off all the time, i just made my self believe that if it's on the car gets poor fuel economy, so i always turn it off. It's a habit now.

Hmm... does it only come on M6 cars or something? Cuz it's just weird, I got every single option on mine, power seats, cd changer, the whole shibang (haven't used that word in a while) but no TCS button. Friend of mine who just got a WS6 doesn't have it either.

Of course I obviously don't have it, cuz when I stomp it... they light up

I don't really care to have it at all, the two of us were just curious about it.

I'm pretty sure some automatics are equipped with traction control too.

As for you car having all the options but traction control, yeah that is a little odd, but oh well. I looked at a '98 Z28 a while back and it was loaded with everything but traction control too. I don't know how it was decided what cars it was on, but hey, I don't have it nor miss it so I'm fine.

I test drove a 99 A4 Trans Am that had traction control a few days ago. So they are out there.

Yes, traction control was available on both M6 and A4 equipped cars, it was a separately selected option.

I don't have a button in my 98 T/A, but I have seen on the dash a low trac light come on, what is the deal with that? Do I have TCS or not?

The low traction light on the dash is when your ABS kicks in.

Also, I think that you can either have traction control, or cruise control, not both. Cause I read about how with cruise control, there is an extension to the throttle, where another cable (the cruise control cable) is attached. If you have traction control, it says you will only have the single cable. So I guess since I have cruise, I have no traction.

If you have the switch, it would be on the dash next to the fog light switch and the Camaro dash plaque. Your owners manual will tell you all about it.

Traction control and cruise control were definitely available together, as my car has both as well.
