Amp question (newbie to car audio).

I have a Polk Audio DX 10" sub already in a box to go into my camaro. I need an amp for it but have no idea what kind to get. I'm looking for someting inexpensive and that gives my sub a nice thump. Doesn't have to be stellar or anything. Would these subs work? If not can someone recommend some good, inexpensive ones. Also, how much am I looking at for installation? Thanks.

I think you meant "Would these AMPS work" correct? Both of those amps are basically cr@p. It may say 1,000watts but it probably puts out about 200.... A good cheap realiable amp would be the JBL BP300.1. That will give you about 350WRMS@2 ohms. that should be enough power for one sub. You DO have ONE 10" correct? I'm not fimilar with that line of Polk subwoofers. Is it a few years old? Because they have the GX line now. Do you know any info about it? What is the impedence of the voice coils? (ie. 2 ohm, 4 ohm, 4ohmDVC etc.) How much power is it rated at? (RMS not peak) And installation = $0. Do it yourself. Save the money and buy a better amp. It's not hard at all. Just ask and I will guide you through step by step if you would like.

I don't really know anything about the amp except what it is. Yeah it's one 10" sub. How much is that amp you mentioned? Could you explain what it means likes 2 -channel 4-channel. Like would a 4 channel power a sub effectively or should I stick with two channel? I'm not that great at installation. This is the stock head unit as well. What would I need to but to complete the install? Thanks for you help

And thats being nice.

If you intend to add a single sub to your stock stereo then all you need is either a mono amp (one channel) or a 2 channel amp that is bridgeable. The easiest way to add a sub/amp to the stock stereo is by using a PAC OEM-1. The OEM-1 plugs directly into the factory wiring harness so no cutting and splicing is necessary. You'll also need to run a power wire from your battery to where you mount the amp. You'll also need a fuse (close to the battery) and a ground cable. If this is all you intend to add then you can get by with 8awg power cables. If you want to leave room to upgrade in the future use 4awg power cable and a distribution block. Then use 8awg cable from the D-block to the amp. Since you seem to know very little about any of this I suggest you go to a shop and let them do it.

The JBL BP300.1 can be had off Ebay for $129:

And Scala1 is a VERY realiable person to deal with, so don't worry. For subwoofer use you will want a 1-channel (mono)or a 2-channel amp. (as ls1 said) If you decide on a 2-channel you will have to combine both channels together (bridge) to get full power to your one sub. And if you use a bridged 2 channel amp make sure your sub presents a 4ohm load to the amp. Very few amps can handle a 2ohm load when bridged.

And LS1 told you what you will need for the install.

Thanks for the info. I'll save up a little cash and go with the JBL amp mentioned above and probably get it professionally installed (probably Best Buy cause I have a $50 gift card for there). The reason I'm not good at wiring is I'm not patient and usually end up ripping wires to pieces
