6 litre truck motor swap?
6 litre truck motor swap?
hey all!! i have a friend that has a newer model truck not sure of the year but it has the LS1 style motor in it which is a 6L. the motor went out on him, he thinks it blew a head gasket n i can get the motor for lil of nothing. my question is how hard if possible would it be to go to a LS1 truck motor in my car? would the wiring harness n computer from a LS1 car be needed? and would i have to make changes to the car itself to get the motor and LS1 style headers in? thanks in advance
The cast iron LS1-style block is identical in dimensions to the aluminum LS1. You would need the LS1 F-Body K-member and motor mounts. Not sure about the compatibility of the 95 4L60E trans. You would have to use F-Body LS1 headers.
And it uses all the same operating systems as the "car" LS1, so you would need a complete LS1 PCM and harness. Probably have to swap to an LS1 F-Body dash cluster. The "truck" intake manifolds are very tall, and probably wouldn't fit under the 4th Gen hood. If you swapped in a stock LS1 intake it would probably fit better. The truck also has a "drive by wire" throttle control, which was not used in the "car" LS1's.
Most of the LS1-based engines use a dead-end fuel supply system, with the pressure regulator in the back of the car, by/in the tank. Fuel system would have to be changed, although you can buy aftermarket LS1 "recirculation" style fuel rails.
Just do a "search" on an LS1 engine swap - the truck engine would just offer the complications of significantly added weight, the too-tall intake manifold and the throttle activation mismatch.
Not really an "advanced tech" question. Probably get a lot more responses in the "General 67-02 F-Body Tech" section. I'll move it there for you.

ok thanks i was wondering if i had it in the right place. i'm not gonna just put the motor in there as is id like to build a stroker or something or at least some forged pistons n stuff and a good head n cam package n spray it
i was wandering the same thing about the tranny myself i dont think it will work if i remember correctly so ill just have to try n sell mine n get another one from one of the vendors or something. thanks for the info
