Okay I'm going to select one of these cams of my LT1. I would like to go with the 230/236 and still pass emissions. I'm getting a tune from Bryan at PCMforless and I live in NJ
Think I'll pass? BTW the 1st 2 cams are on a 111 LSA and the 230 is on a 112. Thanks
Comp Cams 224HL Camshaft 224/230 duration @ .050", .525"/.560" lift with 1.5 rockers, .560"/598" lift with 1.6 rockers. Excellent cam for 350 naturally aspirated cars, street/strip.
Comp Cams 224XH Camshaft 224/230 duration @ .050", .567"/.584" lift with 1.5 rockers, .605"/.622" lift with 1.6 rockers. The most powerful mid duration Comp Cam available.
Comp Cams 230HL Camshaft 230/236 duration @ .050", .560"/.570" lift with 1.5 rockers, .598"/.608" lift with 1.6 rockers. Excellent cam for 350 strip cars, stroker street/strip cars.

I think I remember someone saying that Bryan could get the 230/236 to pass, but with a custom "test only" tune. Might want to pick up an extra PCM and have him tune it for that, and slap it in there every two years.
This isnt related to the cam, but.....
when I had my grand am inspected, it failed for a loose steering wheel. I ripped the rejected sticker off, came back a month later with the fixed wheel. They Flipped out when they saw I removed the rejected sticker.
And then there was the time they refused to inspect my z28 because the sticker was valid, i had just bought the car and wanted to make sure it passed during the warranty. The refused to inspect it so I just sat blocking the line. Needles to say they put me through.
And then.... there was the time I sat in line for 15 mins while the lazy employee layed against the equiptment and talked to some girl. I honked and yelled "hurry the f*** up" as I was on my lunch hour. He yelled "chill" So i sped off.
And then.. there was the time they tried to dyno my 240sx at the front wheels. I wasnt too thrilled about that... (its rear wheel drive)
I think I have some underlying NJ inspection rage.

Definitly go to a private garage, the will be a little more inclined to get you to pass. I have to agree with thelemur that the people at the state run facilities are a bunch of hand jobs. My car failed twice with a completely stock motor, cause the jerk offs let my car idle for about 20 minutes before they decided to test it. I have seen many new cars fail the state run test. A buddy of mine who is a mechanic has had his personal car fail the test, go back a few days later and passed with flying colors! Oh, and special thatks to our former Furor, I mean govenor, Christine Whitman for flushing my tax dollars down the toilet on all of this, not to mention the wonderful job she did with insurance.

My T/A passed a couple of years ago, with half a cat on it. You know how there's two bricks inside a catalytic on a single cat car? The rear one came apart, so I cut off the cat, cleaned out the one brick, had it welded back on, and passed inspection. The inspection actually went without a problem. They did'nt even open the hood, and this was a STATE inspection center (Route 38 in Lumberton/Mount Holly for those interested).
However, my 89 celica initially failed for safety. Seems the muffler had a hole in the backside of it right near where the tailpipe comes out. I told them what's the difference? It's coming out of the same end. So what? "No! That's a safety hazard" Get real people.
Personally, I think they should take the whole emissions program and shove it. Hold the standard to the cars as they come out of the factory, and leave it at that. Most of these vehicles are so emissions friendly anyway that it really doesn't matter.
