AC Compressor pulley seized
AC Compressor pulley seized
The pulley on my AC Compressor has seized up. It's been squeaking for a couple of weeks but I thought it was the alternator, turns out it wasn't. It would squeak or squeal initially when I first started the engine, but then it would stop. Now the car won't start because the pulley won't turn. Leaves me stranded until I get it fixed. I thought maybe it was the relay, traded it with a relay that works, no change, tried unplugging the wires on it, no change. I have to fix this because it's my only car.
Is there any way I could recharge it or something and get it to turn?
If I can't (I don't expect to be able to) fix it, is there any special steps I should take to replace it? I haven't done one before.
Thanks

If it is seized, you are going to have to get it off of there. You could just swap in another compressor without a charge for the time being. At least the pulley would spin until you can get the rest of the work done. Or put an a/c delete pulley on it as a temporary fix to get you going.
Turns out there's two different styles of compressors or something. Calling salvage yards they want to know which one and I don't have any idea cause I'm at work and the car is at home. Do the compressors just have different size pulleys or what? If they do can I just get any one from an earlier design and trade out the pulleys?
