Vortec V6 vers non vortec heads and engines
Does anybody know the HP rating of the vortec 4.3L v6 in the 96 S10 truck witha throttle body?I just swapped in one sat into my new van..
Also whats the dry weight of one of those puppies..Im tyhinking of buying another and dropping it into a convertable RX7 for the wife..
Any body know of any buildups on N2O on the web?Really thinking of building one for some fun..

There were t engines:
VIN code W was 170 hp in 2WD and 180 in 4WD
VIN code X was 180 hp in 2WD and 190in 4WD
Difference was probably exhaust system.
Not light. Maybe 60-80 lbs less than 350 V8. The only thing missing is two middle cylinders, but a balance shaft was added, which ain't light.
Not much speed equipment for 4.3 V-6. IMO, a 3.8 Supercharged 240 hp engine is a better bet for a swap. 300 hp quite easy to get, and it's smaller/lighter.

No carb intake for the 3800 series engine, FWD block are a pain to work with when swapping into a RWD platform..Been there done that in a jeep..
Its not about weight and 300 Hp is way much for just a get around car..Its more about room under the hood on this one..

Didn't know you wanted to use carb. I don't think the carb manifolds fit '96 and newer 4.3's. Edelbrock's only go to '95, I believe.
For smaller, lighter V6 try the 2.8L-3.1L-3.4L 60 degree engine family. They came in RWD versions, are much narrower than the 4.3L, and there are carb manifolds for at least some of them. Again, Camaro 3.4 might be your best bet. Less torque than the 4.3, however.
60 v6 stink..The 3.4 is a good swap into a tired cherokee or s10 but thats about it..There isnt a carb intake for the 3800 engines that i know of..
My non vortec 4.3 intake fit the vortec heads without a problem..I had to swap then due to the servo EGR on the vortec intake..Im gonna do some searching this week and get the heads on the flow bench..

There are a "few" Vortechs that are 195HP stock. My old roomate/good friend of mine's truck was this way. I'm not sure what the VIN code was that designated the difference; I recall him looking it up a while ago. Whoever originally ordered his truck was looking for the "go fast" truck of S-10's (96 S-10, ZQ8 wheel/suspension package, step-side, regular cab w/ no power locks or windows, 5-speed). Very torquey motor.
My 93 S-Blazer is rated at 140HP. CPI Vortech motor.....if it had some actual gearing in it, it would be pretty peppy (since it has no options whatsoever on it, 2 door 2WD....but the gearing really sucks on it).
On the bright side, with this motor in an RX7, the gas mileage will probably be pretty damn good. I get 23-24 on the highway w/ my Blazer (has 4L60E in it). W/ a car several hundred pounds lighter and far more aerodynamic, I'd expect it to much better, unless the gearing is really insane.
