You need to at least tell us the year of the car, rear axle type and the engine type.

Even with that info, you will need to complete the engine, tranny and rear axle install, and then measure the exact length required. There are just too many variables for anyone to get the length correct without measuring it.... 'glide case, rear axle (12-bolt, 9-inch, S60), pinion yoke dimension, etc.

Unless you changed your diff, a powerglide uses roughly the same length as a long tailshaft TH350 and a 700R4. All 3 are close enough to use the same driveshaft.

The proper length is to push the tranny yoke all the way into the tranny then pull it back out 1". Measure from the center of the u-joint on the tranny yoke to the center of the u-joint on the diff yoke. That's the measurement you need for a new driveshaft.

My Sled

its got a moser 9 inch and a glide.....i don't see how i could use the same length drivaeshaft as a 35/400 turbo...isn't a glide shorter,therefore needing a longer driveshaft...? i was hoping someone might have the same setup as me and can give me a ball park,someone has one that is 52 inches center to center that i want to buy but don't want to buy it if its too short

The transmission mounts are in different locations. The TH400 uses a larger output shaft needing a different slip yoke.

Length of transmission from bellhousing to back of transmission.

700R4 = 30"
TH350 (9" tail shaft) = 30-5/8"
PG (12" tailshaft) = 28-5/16 (needs a driveshaft slightly longer but not by much)
TH400 if you can find one with a 4" tail shaft is 29"

There's no exact way to give a ballpark length. Your diff might not be in exactly the stock position. You could have a different length pinion yoke or any other thing could determine the proper length. The only way to get a proper length is to have the transmission and diff in the car and measure the distance.

52" seems long to me. I think mine was around 42" when I had it built.

The last time I did a major change to my car, I needed to get my driveshaft lengthened. I use 1350 u-joints. They simply cut my weld yokes off the tube and installed a longer tube using the yokes I already had.

My driveshaft was custom built. 1350 yokes and 3" x .083" walled steel tube. Factory shafts just are not strong enough.

I run a powerglide but I also have my engine set back 1-2" using a front motor plate and a custom made tranny crossmember. The last time I had my driveshaft length changed, I did the back half on my car and got a billet yoke for the 9".
